Upper calf injury - already searched posts

It’s now been about two months that I have had an aggravtaing upper calf injury/strain that just won’t go away. It’s high up in the calf, in the knee area, it kind of feels like a tender bubble in the lower belly of my knee, for a while I thought it was my knee (and it could be I guess).

Here’s the thing - I can run without it hindering me, cycling is a little more noticeable but it doesn’t stop me from getting out there. It’s worse when I am just walking around or when I get up in the am. First time I hurt it was after the first big training weekend this spring, so I thought I overtrained a little. Then, I went on vacation for three weeks and rested it; but it’s still here and hasn’t subsided.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience this before? Thanks in advance.

One possibility: Is it about an inch + below the center of the joint (easier to measure when leg is bent) and about an inch outside of centerline? That would be posterier tib tendonitis and probably caused by subluxation of the fibula. Have your Chiro check it out. There might also be discomfort up and down the fib (along the peronius longus.

Wow, you are good Cousin Elwood! (Excuse the rhyme, my bad…)

Your diagnosis seems pretty accurate to me, though I suppose I’ll have to get it checked out anyway.

Thanks for your input!

I’m going to be 55 in September and I’ve run, ridden and swam for most of those years. I defy you to come up with a sports injury I haven’t experienced!!

I used to say that too, but I still keep coming up with new ones.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The older I get, the more “unbreakable” parts start breaking down and falling off!!

Just getting over this injury - my expeience was very simular to yours - I iced it down after running and riding and took advil which all made it 95% better. I found that biking agrevated it the most so I switch to a Lifeccylce for a week which seem not to aggrevate it as much while it healed.

Good Luck-

Question- Does any 'Twitcher over forty NOT ice after every long workout?

Right now I’m doing lower calves (soleus?) and ATs bilaterally and right, outside knee (like IT band but deeper)

My endorphine addiction is murder on my skeletal system.
