Upgrading my P2C

I am very new to this forum, I am currently training for the Penticton Ironman 2009. I have completed the Vancouver Triathlon (olympic) in 2008. I just bought my first Tri Specific Bike. A Cervelo P2C. I have not added anything to it at this point, as it really a great bike. I am on a low budget, with student loans, and recently married. What should be my first steps in upgrading this? Wheels? Breaks, Gears?

Again I am new to this world of Triathlon, I want to make smart choices financially. What would you recommend?

Low on budget, with loans…

upgrade…nothing!

wheels and tires are the only upgrade you can do to the bike that will make you substantively faster.

The first thing you want are aerobars that 1) fit and 2) get you into the correct aero position. They don’t need to be expensive or carbon. Position will make you faster more than anything else. They should be as comfortable as possible for the distance you want to race.

If what came on the bike does this for you, you don’t need to spend anything other than a lot of time training.

Brakes, WTF? You’re racing not stopping. Forget about that.

aero helmet…wheels if you fall into some cash. Nothing else needed with that bike.

I was thinking helmet, I am using my old down hill helmet at the moment. Sorry if it’s a stupid question. I am brand new to this whole Ironman thing. One Olympic distance in a Kona downhill bike. So I just want to be smart and give myself the best value for my money. This is long term investment and many tri’s to go. I just want to know where I should start. So hills, and hours on the bike plus helmet here I come!!

Thanks for all the responses.

upgrading to a P2 over a dedicated downhill rig may well increase your speed by 500mph

LOL

Helmet is the biggest bang-for-the-buck upgrade you can make. Assuming you fit well on the bike, save your money and go ride the thing, it’s a great bike.
