Upgrade sram red tt 10spd to 11spd for 250 euro

Hi everybody, just a quick update about my upgrade from sram 10spd to 11spd.
What I bought

  • **SRAM R2C Aero SL-1150 TT Shifter 2x11-speed ** (decided to buy the aluminium back to centre ones) 190 euro
  • shimano dura-ace cassette 11-23 (i liked to have the 18cog) 170 euro, you can get the sram 11spd for the same price and the ultegra for about 50.
  • shimano dura-ace 11 spd chain 30 euro.

The sram red 10spd rear derailleur is easily convertible to 11spd by only changing the shifter (and chain and cassette), works perfectly.
I tried to keep the shifters similar by also chaining the FD shifter but it didn’t have enough range, so I had to keep the old shifter.
Now I had a FD red carbon shifter and aluminium (also larger) RD shifter, which worked fine, but didn’t look so nice. And staring at it for 5+ ours would surely start to be annoying.

I decided to try to only change the RD shifting switch of the new shifter by the old red carbon (10spd), but it was stuck eventhough the inside of the parts looks identical. I took all the parts out (springs etc) and changed it into the old carbon one. I did use the old screw and it works like a charm.

So I spent about 190 euro for the new back to centre 11psd aluminium shifters, 30 euro for the dura-ace chain and 170 euros for the dura ace 11 speed cassette. So for less than 400 euro’s you can upgrade your sram red 10spd to an 11 spd. I have mavic aksium wheels, which were fine with the new 11spd cassette cause of the spacer and I was using an 11spd zipp 808, which I used with the same spacer. If you get the ultegra 11spd and a cheaper chain, you can do the upgrade for around 250. The 11spd sram red is about the price of the dura-ace, but doesn’t have the 18cog option.

I also upgraded to Osymetric, I took me a few hours to get the FD right, but worked fine in the end. I noticed that there’s a small chance that the 11spd chain gets stuck in between the two chainrings, but if you gear smooth and without breaks it’s no problem. The FD chain clearance to get to the smallest and biggest cog is just enough to make the 11spd cassette work, but there’s not much room.

Ready for IM Barca in 10 days! I’m happy I have the 11spd option and such a flat fast course.
