UPDATE - What bike for $3000? - UPDATE

Someone listed PLant X bikes as an option but those bikes are $4k at their “lowest” level and can get over $5k depending on what else you want on it. The prices are always listed in British Pounds so you need to convert it. If you can get this bike for less than $3k please let me know because I would love to get one!

That’s not true, they offer the “slowtwitch deal”…dura ace build for USD$2499…a great deal…

I got an email from Andy over at Planet X today and he said they were finished offering the slowtwitch special rate and he quoted me the new higher price. I replied to him to verify that the slowtwitch deal is finished and will post his response. After getting his $4k+ price that deal you mentioned looks pretty awesome!

Just scroll down the page, it’s still there and the shopping cart still works. Not to throw anyone under the bus, but there are no end dates or notices that the offer has been removed.

I say stick with the original thought. An S32, some race wheels(I recommend rebadged 404s) and you’re set for about $2400.

I think the slowtwitch offer is still on in the US - just mail peter at zedsport our US distributor ( peter@zedsport.com ) and hell let you know, since all our bikes are custom built and specced almost anything is possible , and Id be pretty sure the US slowtwitch deal can still be sorted without any trouble .

We have redone our UK specs as of 1 Jan - the dura ace model has been respecced so the price will change a bit , as will the spec .

The Stealth Carbon isn’t on the Zedsport website, which is difficult to navigate anyway. My point was that the shopping cart function and the deal are still on the triathlon page of your site. Like I said, I’m not trying to throw you in the fire, you’ve got a product that is gaining a nice following on Slowtwitch (and I’m sure elsewhere) but a large part of that is your personal service and a tremendous deal on a carbon bike. Best of luck to you and your athletes for 2007.

Thanks for the heads up .

I fully agree about the zedsport website - it is currently undergoing a huge overhaul and Ive been promised that very shortly in 2007 well be seeing a massive improvement , for the time being please bear with us and if anythings not clear just drop peter@zedsport.com or andy@planet-x-bikes.com an email .

can you tell me what changed on the Super Value build. looking over the spec I dont see any differences save the 400 USD jump in price.

I think you are referring to the 1099 gb pound build that we had as “super value” - the very original pricing and spec was done with some lower specced items , the original pricing would have been based on the first spec which if I remember correctly R500 wheels , some lower specced tektro brakes (423AG) , truvativ cranks , plus we had some very low 105 pricing at the time.

We actually revised the spec towards the end of the year (to our 2007 specs shown on the website now)- reynolds alta comp , tektro R720s , FSA Gossamer Pro cranks - but kept the 1099 pricing up until end of 2006 .So basically anyone that bought the current bike at 1099 in December got a very good price .

Im not sure if this model has ever been sold in the USA , to be honest we dont particularly like to sell the super value build . Wed prefer to sell the (now) next model up , the 1499 model as it is very much specced to a much more complete performance package - ie I would race it pretty much out the box (alta race wheels , dura ace mechs , gp triathlon tyres , carbon tektro levers)

As a show of thanks for getting your product ST front page action for weeks and weeks, you’re more than welcome to send me a bike. Hey, it’s the least that I can do.

So far I have seen people suggest the “trendy/cool” bikes, but if you want the best bike you will ever own then call Ves at Yaqui and have him make you a tri-bike. His good frames cost as much as some complete bikes, but I liked the first one so much I am having him build me another. It won’t have seat-tube cutouts, or “aero” tubing everywhere, but it will fit, handle and perform the best because he knows how to make bikes correctly. Not something that can be said for all bike manufacturers.

Maybe look at Campy groupos. Chorus. I don’t think there is really reason to go with Shimano

I just got a brand new Kuota K-Factor for just over $3000 from all3sports - I had to pay taxes because I’m local, but I got a few upgrades too - FSA Compact Carbon Cranks, wireless cateye bike computer, oval concepts carbon aerobar, speedplay pedals, and shoes. I also got some other items like bags and stuff totaled around $3600 with tax so I think the bike with upgrades and everything were just about $3000. Anyway awsome bike and looks great and the guys at all3sports helped me build a great bike.

did you feel like they gave you an aggressive position? everytime i see a k-factor built up there the handlebars are the same height as the saddle.

No I’m not quite flexible enough for an aggressive position yet. I know the Kalibur would have been very agressive, but the K-factor seems much more moldable.
