UPDATE: On the stealing note: my 30 yo bonsai is MIA

Dude, you need to get out of your “Zen garden” and get a little pissed!

That’s a big fat bummer. A guy I worked was really into bonsai trees and gave me one as gift when I bought my first house. It died and I still feel guilty about it.

“Dude, you need to get out of your “Zen garden” and get a little pissed! :)”

He sounds plenty pissed to me. Reading between those nice zen lines I get: The tree dies, YOU DIE, asshole.

yeah, i’m so glad you got it back!
probably some kid. i loved your sign idea.

we had a nativity scene get stolen in Indian Hill–people were on the news asking whoever stole it to bring it back, and they did! guilt works.

I’m glad you got your tree back. That was kind of low. My parents had a statue taken off of their front porch a few years ago. They had it for many years prior to the stealing. It ended as one of those weird pranks where a year later the statue is returned with a photo album of all of the places it had been (the Bahamas, England, Mexico etc.). I guess it is kind of funny in retrospect but my parents were upset about it at the time.

I find it hard to believe that somebody would take a 40 pound statue of a Mexican boy sleeping and cart it all of the world just for a prank. People are strange sometimes.

THat’s cool that you got your beloved bonsai tree back.

Strange indeed. I can see taking it around town maybe to Taco Bell, the beach, the museum, but around the world? What kind of pranksters have that kind of money?

The kind who can buy Adobe Creative Suite??

The kind who can buy Adobe Creative Suite??

I think that this happens a lot now a days. When my parent’s statue was taken I think it was before Adobe was super accessible to everyone. I am thinking this was 10 years ago, but it might have been earlier than that. I know it was in the mid-90’s, because they got it back right before my sister’s wedding. But I suppose something like that could also have happened. Either way, people still will do the weidest things.

Bernie

Ah yes, that makes a lot more sense.

KenC, as a fellow Bonsai keeper, PICS OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN
.

Well, the gnome statute that was stolen in Amelie was taken around the world by a flight attendant. But I think in this case the pictures were mailed regularly to the owner.

My mom just gave me a really beautiful gnome (that sounds a bit like an oxymoron, but he is a really good looking gnome) as a housewarming gift. She warned me to beware of the GLF (gnome Liberation Front.) I’m afraid to put him outside.

I’m glad the tree is back!
