Update on Stolen Merlin/Denver

Thought I’d give you guys an update and ask for some advice. Roger, who is participating in IM Wisconsin with his OLD, nasty bike, which didn’t make it to Wisconsin when he did (a whole other story) because he still hasn’t found his stolen Merlin. But…not for lack of trying. He posted fliers all over Denver and low and behold, received a call from a woman who knew who took the bike, knew the guys name and address. Roger, being the sweet, law abiding citizen that he is…gave the info to the local PD as had the lady that heard the guy talking about it. Left his info at the PD since they were already gone…requested a call back. Never got one. Finally got the detective and the guy told him that he was “busy”. He had just received 15 other stolen bikes cases along with Roger’s. Gosh, Denver had 15 $10,000 bikes stolen and it took from August 22nd to September 8 for the reports to get to the detective? No wonder the recovery stats suck in Colorado. Seems that these detectives haven’t followed up on the lead either.

Anybody had any experience with the Denver PD?

They only want to follow up on vehicles that have engines. Easier to trace than bicycles. if you had it stolen in Boulder, however…

That sucks…I once lent a friend a bike…he took it into an LBS for air…they took it from him and called the police on him…I know they got my back at least.
