Update from Lake Placid

This is my first visit to LP and obviously first time doing IMLP.

Went out this morning and rode the last climb from the turn back towards town in Wilmington. I then drove the loop.

I didn’t think the climb back in to town was that difficult. It kind of “rolls up” versus a steady climb. I could see it being a bear (pun intended) on loop 2 and will definitley take it easy for loop 1. After driving the whole loop, it seems like there are 2 sections that will be harder. First, the climb out of town is nothing to laugh off. It seemed more consistent (less breaks) and steeper than the finishing climb. Also, the climb out of Jay to the out and back looks like a bitch, especially at that 80 mile mark when I always get a little cranky.

The run seems very fair. Some climbing but the rollers on the out and back by the ski jump are gradual. Seems like a course you have to race smart and disciplined. But, if you do, you should be rewarded with a good time.

I cant wait for the decent into Keene!

Let’s hope the rain moves out. I think I just saw Noah and a few sets of animals float by…

More later.

Yeah, the rain today has been crazy. I was going to head in to the expo but decided to bag that until tomorrow in favor of holing up in our nice rental house and reading with my wife. The forecast looks perfect for the weekend, the big rain is supposed to be moving out tomorrow morning.

I think the climb from Jay is the toughest on the course.

You should note how hard the climb back in to town is on the run…

I hope you have a great race
I will be in town sat for lifeguard class

Thom.

Interesting. I found that the climbs out of town were not that bad at all but I agree that the climb to the out and back was not fun. The final climb back into town after the out and back is a tough one. It’s not steep but rather sort of a step ladder climb-flat-climb-flat-climb that just builds up the lactic acid in your quads.

I found this to be the hardest part of the whole course. I think it really pays off to hold back on the first loop and especially in the early climbs.

I’ve done Lake Placid 3x and this was always the toughest part. The climb on the run coming back into town. Lots of spectators to help take your mind off the pain.
