Unusual FOP behavior - Rockman

I was discussing this last night with a few people and actually found it refreshing for this day and age.

The guys I ran into on the bike/run, turnarounds on the run, etc. were not a$$holes. Very nice guys and encouraging when being passed and passing me. I was the one who felt like a jacka$$ cause I couldn’t say a word. Just the ol’ thumbs up is all I could muster. But I haven’t seen that in awhile. The intimate size of the race helped out compared to these Wal-mart madness races we usually get into.

Thanks to all for the experience, happy racing.

I stated something similar in another thread from the volunteers point of view. Outside of one arsehole that gave us crap about parking on the street and one other that made a few comments about getting Heed handed to him rather than water everyone was amazingly nice. Even in some instances that people had some viable complaints they all rolled with the punches and made light of the situation. I’d say a large portion of the athletes mustered up a thanks or just a smile as they rolled thru the aid station.

Also seems that most athletes were very conscientious of trash, getting bottles close to the aid station etc.

By comparison I’ve worked 2 IM’s and have been bitched at about really pissy stuff, usually a multitude of times, in my 3 hour shift there vs all day at Rockman.

Seems your FOP perspective was pretty much the way it was for the entire race for most athletes. Not sure why but I hope the trend continues.

As I said before, Kudo’s to all the athletes.

No offense but let me opine. I think if it’s congenialities your looking for from your competitors you may be in the wrong sport.
I could care less what the guy who’s kicking my ass has to say and vice-versa. If I’m passing someone I’m thinking how quickly I can get by and crush your spirit. Congenialness is reserved for golf.
Now volunteers are a different story. But competitors you suck as long as I’m on the course.

No offense taken. I’ll just remember that next time I pass you and i’ll have a nice moment to myself, thinking what a Jacka$$ you are.

I used to play a lot of golf. Good game. But…there are a few a$$holes out there too.

And, crushing spirits. Ya. That’s why I do it too.

t daddy,

your the Jacka$$…three minutes, closing the gap, here I come.

Blake is nothing but a class act! On Saturday he and I were out putting the arrow signs on the course with another helper. My friend Wayne Rupp who was also the lead biker asked me if I knew who I thought would win…he was shocked when I pointed at Blake. I am certain that Blake will go quite far in his years at our sport.
