Is it possible to get the P2C frame without that blue and black paint job? I assume it would look like “nude” carbon (?)
Anyone know - can you remove paint from a carbon frame and re-apply in different colors or is there some sort of clear / protective coat that makes this an unwise idea?
Check with Cervelo. They were working with HotTubes at one point for custom jobs. You’ll pay some for the work, but then you’ll have a one-off bike as well…hell, even if they aren’t working together, you could have your frame painted before you build it up anyway…
you can repaint it, sand down through the clear coat and take off just a little bit of the paint. Don’t go all the way to the bare carbon though as it’s not worth it and you might take off too much attempting to get it all even. Prime it and paint. Voids the warrantee though. Painted a friend’s brand new Kestrel, came out great but voiding the warrantee on a brand spanking new $2K frame was a little scary. I’d love to be able to get a bare carbon Cervelo, but I doubt that’ll ever happen again unless you want to waive the warrantee. I wouldn’t sell bare frames if I was in Cervelo’s shoes, not worth it demand wise, another headache to deal with, their partnership with hot tubes is a pretty good solution.
At some point Cervelo will be offering a custom paint option, of the P3C at least, through Hot Tubes. They had the first custom painted P3C frameset at Interbike.
I don’t think you would ever be able to get a nude carbon frame directly from Cervelo, unless you work for Hot Tubes or who ever they use for normal painting.
I agree…the graphic scheme and colors are very bad…a corbon clearcoat/nude with some milder graphics would get me interested…I loved my old original P2 and then P2K.
I was thinking about selling my Blade to get a P2C or P3C…not till they change the look a bit.
Same here. I hate that paint job, so no P2C for me until they change it.
I wish I had only this problems. For me it is no P2C because I have a family and can’t afford a P2C (or even a Dual).
But I ‘dream’ of a P2C or P2SL a hope to save enough to buy a new Cervelo in 2 to 4 years.
I wonder whether the carbon frames that remain unpainted are any different from the painted carbon frames? in other words, would you find less than straight layers of fiber after you remove the paint, while the straight layered ones are set aside for clear. It might be ugly under that paint
Felix, I would rather be a studly sub 10 Hawaii qualifier and finisher on your Cervelo One (like you are) than a poser with a P3SL (like me). I think you have the right idea. Its not about the bike, it is the engine that counts.
"Well, let me first ask you, what do you think “nude” carbon looks like? "
Gerard - I am not sure if that is the correct term, thus the quotation marks. What I mean by that term would be a frame in the condition prior to applicaiton of the blue paint scheme. Since I have not seen this bike in person, I am assuming (yes, I know) that there is a “carbon” look where the black is on the frame. If that is not the case, is the black painted on first and then the blue painted over?
I’m with you, I love the blue & black. I already have two tri bikes and when I saw the P2C in this months Triathlete magazine, I started plotting how to buy it.
I agree. I am old-fashioned, I like the name of the manufacturer on the downtube not an “e” with an accent over it. I really don’t like that logo much at all. The name I like and the bikes I like, but that P2C needs some help. I love the P3C and the P3SL though, can’t go wrong with black and white.
