I have a zillion plastic containers but none with matching lids. I’ve unpacked Japanese tea and sake sets, but can’t seem to locate the really important things like my wine glasses. I have a feeling I will be living amidst boxes for the next several weeks.
Thanks. I’ve made some progress on the kitchen, but I’m moving really slowly. I’m tempted to take everything to Goodwill and try a minimalist existence.
The flip flops are cute! CLM has the pink and green ones. I just saw the ballet flats in the in newspaper today, they are really cute too.
Too late on the TV, I gave it to my brother last week! I’m really not much of a TV watcher so I’m not too worried. I have a big LCD monitor that I can hook up to my lap top tp watch movies, it’s all good.
Is it OK to have tapioca pudding and chardonnay for dinner since I’m in the middle of unpacking?
Yup , the last box in any moving van should contain -a phone book /plug in phone answering machine ( before cell days ) / pizza cutter wheel / 6 plates - forks /4 rolls of paper towels / roll of trash bags .
it does suck ass! i have put off moving because i just don’t want to deal with the packing/unpacking crap that comes with it! seems like a royal pain.
but, much like anything, it is a process.
the other poster is right, take it one day at a time. that is the only way to get through!
go ahead and have the beer!
it does not all have to be done “today”…you will probably live there for sometime, so while the boxes can get old, they won’t be in your face forever.
then before you know it you’ll have lived there for years and you’ll wonder where the time went!
I got most of my dishes unpacked and put away. I still haven’t found my wine glasses though. The house was built in 1920 and the kitchen needs to be remodeled. As I was unpacking I kept thinking, I’m just goining to have to repack this in a few months when I start the remodel…
I have out of town guests staying with me this coming weekend, so that will be strong motivation to get more done.
I feel your pain… I moved all my stuff last Thursday to CH, then had to return to NB Friday and Saturday to clean, mow, bury St. Joseph, etc. Arrived back in CH Saturday night to a downsized house full of boxes with a family of four coming to spend Sunday night with me (family included a 3 year old and a 7 year old).
I unpacked like a fiend and had found at least temporary homes for most of my stuff, except my 15 boxes of books (yes, I am addicted to books) and my art. The first thing my friends do is baby proof the place… which means stuff that I already didn’t know where it was moved to where I really didn’t know where it was. Then the furniture that I had debated endlessly over was shifted to make more play room. Sigh… I had a bit of wine Sunday night
But we had a great time and the boys were tons of fun. But I will say, after three moves in three years, I’m not moving myself again. It really messes up ones training week
I do agree with the minimalist approach. No TV here either, just my trusty laptop. My dining room table is my office and the kitchen is small enough that my two pups barely fit in it at the same time. But I’m surrounded by woods with trails, some great biking areas and my neighbors have pups as well. Life is Good!
I just got 2 boxes of books in the mail yesterday. So a year and a half after my move I still don’t have all my stuff. I really don’t even remember at this point how many boxes I left in my boyfriend’s garage. When he sends 1 or 2 its like Christmas!
