United Healthcare CEO killed

You’re asking the wrong question. What I think you’re getting at is: Would I do what he did and do I think it was right? In my current state of mind no, and no.

He believed in the injustice. He took specific action against that injustice. He thought that was the appropriate thing to do. None of that has to do with me.

If you can’t differentiate between protecting a dog by punching him and executing a guy on the street I don’t know what to say

No I asked the correct question.

Was he standing up to injustice in your opinion?

If someone hurt my dog I’d probably Mangione them.

Which still not be the same as what he did

I’ll amend my answer.

Definition: “Standing up to injustice means taking a stand against unfair treatment”

So yes in my opinion he was standing up to injustice. However I believe his chosen method of doing so was wrong yet I believe he thought it was the correct method.

Fine what injustice was he standing up to

I can easily differentiate between punching someone and executing them in terms of level of physical harm. However that wasn’t what was in question.

BCTriguy said two different people could take matters into their own hands (against injustice). Those two groups were (1)those who got/get screwed over and (2) those tired of seeing the first group get screwed over.

You the said one of those is arguably defensible and the other isn’t. So you’re the one who implied only one group can be justifiably defended in taking matters into their own hands.

You never mentioned a level of physical action that changes whether or not the person standing up can be defended. So it follows, from your logic, that I couldn’t be defended in standing up against injustice unless I was the person being wronged.

The injustice of the current healthcare coverage issues faced by policy holders in America.

You are very patient.

I keep thinking that what we tell a 5 year old also applies here: Two wrongs don’t make a right.

let me guess.

you grew up in an upper middle class family, have always had a job, and have always made 2-3x the average american salary, and have always made above average for the market in which you live in.

You would not be entirely correct.

As predicted. The terrorism charge under NY law got tossed.

BREAKING: Mangione Won’t Face Death Penalty, Judge Rules

A Manhattan federal judge on Friday took the death penalty off the table for Luigi Mangione, dismissing a capital count and setting up a trial that could see him go to prison for life without the possibility of release.

In a written ruling issued ahead of a court hearing, U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Garnett said the “chief practical effect” of her decision is to “foreclose the death penalty” as an available punishment for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, which is pursuing a case against Mangione for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan in December 2024.

And in other news…

I saw a breathless breaking news report about the plot to break Luigi out of jail. I had a holy-shit reaction until I found out it was just some nutjob with a pizza cutter and a BBQ fork showing up saying he was there to pick up Luigi.

… and he didn’t even bring pizza or barbeque!

He’d have earned bonus points for showing up to the prison dressed as a plumber and claiming his name was Mario.
