Here is what I found in the athlete guide, “11. Athlete “Race Plates” MUST be affixed to the front of the handlebars. Athlete “Race Plates” MUST NOT be bent, folded, wrapped around the head tube, or in any other position than flat against the handle bars. Improper attachment of the race plate will cause timing chips not to register and may be cause for disqualification.”
I’ve already googled the athlete guide and so has my buddy.
Position flat against the handlebars is open to interpretation. Anyone with a bike computer (99% of the field) would be in violation. It also doesn’t say the race plate cant be perpendicular to the ground, even if “flat against the handlebars”.
I’m fairly certain many people are using these race plate mounts without issue.
Why can’t gravel RD’s go with frame stickers like triathlon? Handlebar plates are nonsense.
I think you can use the number plate mount as long as you keep the number plate flipped down so the race number is clearly visible. I believe flipping it up would be against the rules since your number would no longer be displayed. That being said I just ordered one from SoProCycling. It should make the number mounting process cleaner. No more cutting numbers to mount around my computer mount.
Nice. I have a minimalist one coming from Neat Cycling. If you have a 3D printer they are fairly easy to make too.
I think those who use these flip their numbers up when in the middle of nowhere and flip them down when at aid stations, the finish line, etc.
Neat makes great stuff. I have one of their Garmin Varia mounts for my Cervelo seat post and it has solid.
