Um, Biked to work, T-storm, what now?

So this is the first day I biked to work that has bad weather, for the ride home. What do I do now? Work longer, hoping it passes (shudder)?

Bike home, serpentine-like, hoping the lightning can’t anticipate my ninja-pattern?

Bum a ride from somebody at your work?

Victor

suck it up and ride home !

Is this like a Nancy question ?

I would never be late for dinner cause of rain

Thom ha ha

It isn’t the rain that gives me the fear, but the lightning. And the wind. And the stupid cars, full of stupid people, driving stupidly on the road (and sometimes on the stupid bike path).

And the fact I don’t like to get wet. Which really hurts my swim training.

Are you in Chicago?

…And the fact I don’t like to get wet. Which really hurts my swim training.

Funny! Scientific studies show that biking in the rain will make you mucho tough (Sorry. I made that up.)

Make sure you dry and lube your shain when you get home.

Yeah the western suburbs of Chicago. No buses run here. At least, not to anywhere practical.

Check out the radar on the trib’s website. Try to anticipate a break.

I usually ride to work. didn’t today and am feeling very fortunate.

Geneva ???

Thom

Just remember to turn your tail light on. Try the Blackburn Mars3 if you don’t have a good one yet. It is visible in the sunshine and greatly enhances your visibility for the vast majority of people that would prefer NOT to hit you…

Call Danny, that’s what I would do!

Oh, dear.
What about sweat? Sweat is wet.
Showers?

Options:

  1. Man up and ride home regardless of the weather.

  2. Pussy out and get a ride (or other soft option) and never post here again. LOL

  3. Wait for it to snow and then tell your grand-kids that you did it barefoot, into a headwind at
-20degrees and giggled all the way hom!

Just so you know, I ride to and from work every day, regardless of the weather. This morning I was supposed to meet some riding buddies at 6:30 for a 2 hour ride before work. Only I showed up. It was bucketting down with rain, a howling easterly (wind speed about 60-70kph or 40-45mph). I rode into the rain at about 18kph for the first half. (during the gusts I got down to just 12 kph!) till the turnaround and flew back to the office where I changed, and got stuck into work. I just got back from a 40 minute lunchtime run. Rain has eased but the wind has picked up. I will ride home when work is over…because I’m a hard man! Time for you to man up too.

Maxwell - yep, I rode into work today as well (northern 'burbs to Northfield). Sure did suck on the way home - hope you made it o.k. I was riding mostly due north with heavy downpours for most of it - lightning off to my right and sunny skies on my left - very wierd. The lightning was close enough that I sorta forgot about the insulating properties of rubber tires and focused more on the lightning rod between my legs. No crashes, no worries - I figure it’s good mental training if nothing else.
