Other than Kona and Canada, are there any Ultraman events elsewhere?
I don’t believe so. I actually asked Ultra-Tri-Guy about the possibility of another Ultraman being started up and he gave me the impression that those are the only two and that there might be the possiblity in the future of another. Both are top notch events; great people, great atmosphere, great courses.
Are you planning on doing one (or both)? : )
I’d recommend either, or both!
I didn’t find out about them until recently, and I’d love to do one someday…I have no idea how long it would take to train for that.
PM me if you’d like. I can gladly outline for you what I’ve done.
Hi! I’m the assistant race director for Ultraman World Championships. Currently, there are no other Ultraman events besides Canada and the World Championships in Kona. We are looking into the possibility of some other sites for events, but those are a few years off at this point.
Ultraman Canada is a fabulous race based on the same principles and format as the World Championships. Beginning in 2010, the qualifier for the World Championships will change. It will require that applicants be prior finishers of either Ultraman Canada or Ultraman World Championships and have completed at least an Ironman distance race in the 18 months prior.
Hope this information helps. You can also check out the websites for both events www.ultramancanada.com and www.ultramanlive.com
Aloha,
Sheryl
Hi Sheryl, Thanks again for the wonderful hospitality at this year’s event. First class all the way.
We are looking into the possibility of some other sites for events, but those are a few years off at this point.
Would, perchance, any of them be over the west side of the Pond (hint hint) ?
I’d like to do Ultraman (I like the format) but it would probably have to be in Europe somewhere…
Thanks
Doug
We have had people express putting one on in a few different places, and yes, Europe was among those. We’ll have to see which develops first. Keep checking the website for updates.
Sheryl
It was great to have you! I was just admiring my wave yesterday and thinking of you–sending warm thoughts. Say hi to the family for me. Will we be seeing you in Penticton? I hope so. How’s the training for Western States coming along?
Aloha,
Sheryl
Hi Sheryl,
Can you please tell me if the UM Hawaii qualification requirement from 2010 onwards also applies to team entries? i.e. team entrants have to be a previous finisher of either UM Hawaii or Canada.
Secondly would a UM Hawaii team finisher qualify for entry as an individual?
Thanks ![]()
Hi Sheryl, my plan is to be in Penticton volunteering (I’ll look forward to seeing you there). I’m just now starting to get back into some “serious” training. Western States will certainly be a different challenge but I’m looking forward to it.
And Lastly, thanks for mentioning the wave; a small thanks for the HUGE things that you do.
Robbie,
Currently, the relay division for UM World Championships requires that one member of the relay team be a prior finisher–that has been the case since we started relay teams at the World Championships.
Ultraman Canada currently does not have that same requirement for the relay division and I don’t beleive they intend to implement it anytime soon.
As for the UM Hawaii team finisher qualifying as an individual, it would not give you top priority as an individual finisher, but we do give priority to previous relay members and crew members as they have witnessed the event and understand the magnitude of what is needed to complete the event.
Remember that both UM Canada and UM World Championships are both invitation only events and therefore, no guarantees are made for acceptance regardless of previous finishes.
Hope that answers your questions.
Sheryl
The wave holds a place of honor in our home. See you in Penticton!
Thanks Sheryl, yes everything I needed to know ![]()
Best wishes with getting everything organised for this years race.
