My shoes finally gave up the ghost today and I need some new ones for short races. I’ve been using the Brooks Mach 11 and 12, but didn’t like the 12 as much, and hate the looks of the 13 so I want to try something new. I’m 120lbs, midfoot runner, and run in the 17 minute range.

What would you recommend?
The new Newton MV2 seems amazing! I haven’t run in them yet, but friends who have cannot stop raving about them.
Yeah, they definitely are. I have a pair each of their Gravity and Distance models, so I’m fully aware of the cost. But they’re great quality shoes and are awesome (for the people they work for). Haven’t tried the MV2 yet, but I can only assume it’ll be comparable to the quality of the other two; I’m getting a pair for sprint and oly races next season.
Skip the Newton’s. Get a real racing flat which tend to be relatively cheap. I like the Nike Zoom Streak XC2, now they make the XC3. They are very light and $70 shipped from Runningwarehouse.com. And I don’t work for runningwarehouse, but like the free shipping both ways and low prices. Can’t beat their prices and service.
Brooks T series flats are #1 for me. Or whatever Nike has as its latest next-to-nothing (Zoom XC streak?). Nike Mayflys are fantastic unless you’re a clyde/athena type.
Racing flats are such an individual choice. If you could try on all of them that would be good. But the odds are you are going to have to go through some trial and error. My personal recommendation is to try any of the lighter models from the adidas Adizero line. Like the Pro
