This may serve as anything from an FYI to a ride/race saver for people. This concerns the Ultegra 9 speed front derailleur (all versions). I don’t know if it’s a design flaw (and if it is, Big Blue would deny it anyway)
There are to pivot bolts accessible from the rear portion of the derailleur. These use a 3mm allen key.
CHECK THESE TO ENSURE THE BOLTS ARE TIGHT!!! They have a habit of working their way out over time. If one fell out, there could be disastrous consequences (possibly even getting the chain cage caught in your rear wheel). In my experience as a bicycle mechanic, I got in the habit of checking these bolts on EVERY front derailleur and was concerned with the prevalence of this issue.
And out of curiosity, please reply and let me/us know if yours were loose or not.
Happy miles.
