is there a difference between 9 speed ultegra cassettes? i ordered one from performance and it’s an HG model. i really don’t know if my bike has an HG or not. does it make a difference?
Most of the Ultegra stuff is marked HG. It stands for HyperGlide. I’ve bought a few cassettes from Performance now, and I assure you that they are the sames ones that you would get at the LBS.
I don’t think it makes any difference at all.
The HG does not matter it is the different cogs that matter. You should make sure that you are getting the right number of cogs that you want. As in do you want an 11 cog or 12 cog as your base and do you want 29 as you hieght. That is the key question. Make sure you buy the right cassett for the right type of riding.

Same thing. Shimano has branded their road drive train components HG for Hyperglide. You will see it on cassettes and chains.
