“Lance has dominated the Tour for the last six years and whoever beats him is going to be the greatest,” Ullrich said. "A true sportsman always wants to beat the best. This year’s duel will be the most exciting because this is his last Tour.
“He’s dominated the race for the last six years and broken the records of the century,” he told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag. “I want to beat the best to be the best of the best. That’s my motivation - this is the last chance.” Ullrich.
SO IF HE WINS THIS YEAR HE IS GOING TO BE THE GRETAEST CYCLIST OF ALL?
Hey Chex,
I think the English version of the interview is a little bit different from the German one. He only states, that he wants to beat Lance and he wants to be the best of the best… I think every professional athlete has this ambition.
I’m German, but I like both: Jan Ullrich and Lance Armstrong. I’m looking forward to the start of the Tour.
Greetings,
sotanee
Vino who says ‘someone’ on t-mobile should win the yellow jersey and if he gets the chance he will go for stage wins.
Kloden who is ticked off he couldn’t get out of the German National Championships while “Other people were allowed to.”
Then you have Zabel who says, “I wouldn’t have prevented from winning…When I become second or third it is a loss, yet other people are celebrated for that.”
And Aldag, “I would have left it up to a champion like Erik to decide whether he wanted to start or not.”
Because he heard that you like doing Alpine climbs without any training and thus are clearly a masochist
I spent a few days with Ironguide Marc a couple of weeks back and the roles were reversed. With a total of 3 rides for the year under my belt he took me out on an ugly climb up to an observatory. The climb hit 8% straight off the bat and had me anaerobic trying to hold onto his back wheel as the freak powered up in the big ring, I suffered this for 10km until we had to dismount briefly (much needed respite for me) and go offroad to access a closed road for the last few km’s hitting over 20%. Ouch… wish you were there, you would have loved it !!!
I’m sorry Zabel isn’t going but this does finally demonstrate some commitment to GC. It seems to be Kloden has ben knocked back to chief domestique duties, Vino has been given the sole task of helping Ullrich plus carte blanche for a stage win and everyone else is supporting the team. It’s their best bet but would you put money on them ?..
