A pretty obnoxious ad, but a very cool bike. For those with money to burn.
not even close to anything Jan has ever ridden…
You would be incorrect in that statement.
Maybe the FRAME type(not that particular frame), but NONE of the other components…
tfun~
nah, I think you’re wrong there too.
The story on the auction is simply bullshit. Ullrich did not leave Telecom just before the 2003 tour, he was fired back in 2002, and missed the tour that year due to suspension. He was with Coast prior to the 2003 tour, which was sponsored by Bianchi. So, unless this is really a 2002 bike, then it was not built for Jan.
WRT the component selection, I’ve never seen Jan ride Zipps, Hed aero bars or a tri-specific saddle. Lightweight, Xentis, AX Lightness, etc. would be in the spirit of Jan.
True, he rarely, if ever rides anything but cutting edge, uber light-weight gear, but Jan does ride Shimano Dura-Ace, Nokon Cables, and SRM.
On the other hand, I seriously doubt that was ever Jan’s bike.
so then you do agree with me…lol
.
No, you said Jan rides none of those components. Yet he does ride some. I fail to see how my response can be construed to be in agreement to yours.
I just got an e-mail response from the seller - I pointed out that there was no way a 2003 Pinarello would have been built for Jan, but he insisted that’s what the bike shop told him, so… Anyway, will be interesting to see if anyone buys it - pretty spendy for that bike.
yep, definately not Ullrich’s bike. I just watched the 2003 TdF final time trial, its the one where its raining and Jan crashes… (i have the DVD) and that bike looks nothing like Ullrich’s bike.
Pretty arrogant and extremely misleading to say the least. While it is a nice bike, anyone who pays anywhere near that is a fool. It may have in some faint way (ie someones dream), at some point, have been INTENDED for Jan, but I doubt he even set eye’s on it! While team sponsors change, I don’t think Jan has had any involvement with Zipp, and he would have NOT had a stem like that!!
I have actually just got myself a new Montello, and it is just the bomb! Mine is brand new, with more modern technology, and probably came out less that what he is asking for a used bike with no “added value” (I don’t have SRM or zipp’s though).
Well a few things jump out immediately. Jan never, ever, rode a pina montello with that paint scheme. Furthermore, during his pre 2003 time with Telekom, his tt bikes were always rebadged FES bikes or, latterly, rebadged Walsers.
He says all the equipment was new in 2003 when the bike was built. SRM only began making the Dura Ace SRM powermeter in the summer of 2004.
He has never ridden Look pedals, unless you count the version Campy made under license from Look in his first Tour in '96. From '97 on and to this day, Jan has been a dedicated user of Time pedals.
I don’t believe Oval Concepts existed as a brand in 2003. I think Morgan Nicol was still working for Tom Ritchey back then and hadn’t made the jump.
Jan has never, and I mean never ever, ridden Zipps! Why would he when he has access to much better equipment!
Looking at the ad again I see that buried in the description he concedes that he believes only the frame and post and headset and brake were Jan’s. Still it’s pretty misleading to call it Jan’s bike. Bike to me means the whole package, and not just the frameset.
The guys a tool, yeah its a nice bike but how about brag about your supposed achievements and profession. Wank.
