farking A. heads should roll for this farking travesty of a race.

Awesome performance by Team GB! Finished off nicely by Cav!

Dang, what a finish. I wonder how many stage wins Cav will take at the TdF next year wearing the rainbow jersey?

A whole year with that punk in the rainbow jersey… Bummer.

But once again the idea that Cav needs a train to win has been put to rest.

But once again the idea that Cav needs a train to win has been put to rest.

Agreed. He’s really matured and rounded out as a sprinter in the last year. Before - the only way that he could win was being delivered directly to the front by his team and then let loose with about 150 - 200 meters and no more to go with an unobstructed run to the line.

Of late, he’s had to manufacture wins when everything starts to break-down with his team and lead-out and do more of the work on his own and use other teams and key of other sprinters.

Still not a fan of the attitude - but he is a sprinter and this seems to go with the territory

For sure, as well as what kind of race he can win on. Slight slog is no problem. His timing was spot-on. This week was quite a swan song for Stapleton.

And how about Fabian? He’s got way more sprint than he gets credit for.

Cav is one fast farging sum of a batch.

Great point re: Stapleton. He is certainly going out on a high note.

i think 3rd place was given to the German dude and Cancellara was 4th

watched the last 2 laps or so on british tv. great race but nothing short of nauseating listening to the british commentary

David Harmon can get emotional, and it’s normally welcomed, but yeah i would have preferred it if they tuned it down a bit. Sean Kelly didn’t say a word for 3-4 minutes after the end of the race.

I’m sure the intended UK audience loved it, what else were you expecting?

I was watching the race for the last 60km. I am British. Yes, the commentary team was very biased and intensely irritating if you weren’t British. Yes I can see how Cavendish rubs people up the wrong way. But as a British cycling fan it was just awesome to watch. I have watched years and years and years of TDF races with not one British cyclist in it. To see how David Brailsford and his team have built up British cycling to this point and the planning and execution that went into the race it is very impressive. I must admit that I was sorry to see Thor’s race ruined by the crash, and I will be sorry to see Thor lose the rainbow jersey, because he put in a huge year as world champion. As much as I marvel at the sprinting genius of Cavendish, Thor’s two solo victories in the TDF were exceptional and he is the polar opposite in personality to Cavendish.
But putting patriotism, national pride and personalities to one side, what I find fascinating about Cav’s victory lies far below the surface of this one race. If you look at where British cycling was when Brailsford started, and what he has now achieved it is a demonstration of what can be done with a small group of people with a clear focus and absolute dedication to the task. Take a look at the Cycling medal tables from Atlanta 96 and compare it to Athens or Beijing. Take a look at British road cycling results from the 90’s and then the last few years. It’s not because the British are a great cycling nation, its not because of massive Billionaire type investment. It’s the dedication of a small group of people to excellence.

Sorry if this is biased. I am British.

The Brits have a lot to be proud of. Their squad today was head and shoulders above any other, and they delivered with all the pressure on them.
