UCal Bearathlon 03-22-09 ? cost reasonable for these times

Did this the past couple years as AGer. This year an interesting change from a pool swim and urban ride, campus run, to a lake swim (fun sounding for March even in California) and a trail run. Current cost $110 plus USAT one day license. What say you all to the cost in these tight times? 0.9 mile swim 22.75 bike and 10 k run

$110 for an Olympic race is actually pretty good. Not to mention, you money will go towards supporting a collegiate triathlon program, which is never a bad thing, right?

I guess if Wildflower is your reference point that $110 entry fee sounds “pretty good.” But I’ll be doing three Olys in the Portland area this summer – Blue Lake is $70, Hagg Lake is $70 and Portland Triathlon is $85.

You’re right, $110 to get lifeguards, 23 miles of roads, overtime police protection, a 10km run, awards, support on course, a t-shirt, and a little leftover to support a group of college kids is completely out of line in these uncertain times.

Depends on the area you live in, I guess.

Silicon Valley Olympic Distance Triathlon = $145
Folsom Olympic Distance Triathlon = $125
Strawberry Fields Triathlon = $105
June Lake Olympic Distance Triathlon = $150
Auburn International Tri = $160
etc.

$110 seems to be middle of the road for Olympics around here in California. There’s a few small races that are cheaper ($90 or so).

Yeah, even Pacific Crest, one of the bigger tris in Oregon, is just $70. So we do seem to be fortunate up here, compared to CA.

OK, so that’s one vote for reasonable from the coach/college triteam and I understand the big city costs argument. And one vote from the less expensive-is-available crew. There are indeed smaller races out in the sticks (central California where I live), like UCDavis at $70, that are less expensive and less restrictive on pre-race check in. So, I vote with my wallet. Sayonara Bearathlon and Treeathlon.

Since its california id say thats about right. Iowa though we can get them for 60 bucks
