Ive got my TT bike parts all picked out except the type of base bar…the local bike shop recommended the Vision TT base bar over the Cobra Carbon Base Wing cuz he said since the bike is already full carbon the aluminum will bring some stability…agree or disagree?? any suggestions?

This needs to be quoted for posterity.
i cant believe your LBS told you that…
They really said that lol…I was expecting him to say no no stay with the Cobra Wing…Im guessing its because he doesnt have the Cobra Wing but he does the Vision TT Wing…IDK…i know you and Paolo are the experts here so what do you guys suggest? I may go to my usual triathlon shop instead…though i had been told the LBS was the best in the area lol
I would suggest the VisionTech carbon basebar. That should keep everyone happy ![]()
Seriously, if those were the choices, I would go with the VT. I vote for stability :-p
lol…ok VT Carbon basebar…gotta call and find out if they have it, i know my local tri shop has the Cobra Wing…stability lol…glad i asked you guys before buying anything…
Regardless of the “stability” issue, the Vision bar is sleeker than the PD carbon base bar and the difference in weight is <50g. I am willing to bet that no one in the history of triathlon has lost a race because of 50g. The improved aerodynamics of the VT bar probably outweigh the minimal weight difference anyways. VT makes a carbon version of its basebar, so if you really want to go as light as possible, I would ask if they have the carbon version. If not, I would go with the VT aluminum.
I see thanks for the input…theres also only 30g difference between the Aluminum and Carbon version of the Vision…i dont care for how light, im not even close to being a pro but i want something that will be solid and feel great when i ride…
Once I was told by a shop guy that you can’t use carbon seatposts with carbon frames. Again same guy greased my carbon seatpost…
LOL! Wow - I’m surprised they didn’t tell you that you needed the Zipp Vuka basebar since it is more aero and stable than any other. How much is it you might ask? Oh, we’ll just include it in the total cost of the bike …
Those carbon base bars snap off real nice when you crash. I’m going to stay with my al. base bar. Bends but doesn’t snap ![]()
lmfao…umm thats a bit steep no?? ill stick to Paolo’s suggestion cuz im not at the level where i should be spending THAT much for a base bar lol…good suggestion though cuz they are badass
i guess the guy was even wrong when he mentioned vision as the most stable base bar.
What im going to say doesnt really matters but, vision has standart 26.0 clamp diameter versus the probile that has an oversized clamp, so the PD would be stiffer (in theory).
i personaly thing that oversized aerobars are just stupid ![]()
hmm…interesting data there Sergio…IDK which one i like cuz the Visions are clearly more aero but theres something about hte Cobras that attract me more… Guess ill research opinions and data till all my stuff gets here and i gotta build the bike.
go badman style and just forgo the basebar. j/k, just FYI if you do decide to go with the carbon verson of the VT then it will not be compatible with the new SRAM force tt brake levers b/c the they don’t fit, even with the expanders that VT supplies with their bars, but the AL version is great and that is what I have used for a while.
kool thanks for the advanced warning…got some Dura Ace shifters…gotta see which one i pick im leaning on the Cobras but the Visions looks badass…
not sure i can handle badman style lol
