Wow.
With over 9,000’ of climbing, that’s a badass split.
Those on the forum that thought that pro triathletes could beat former TDF stage winners can now start eating their hats.
holy crap…i’d say he’s on form again.
wouldn’t it be cool to get his power data? anyone know if he rides with a PT or SRM?
make it 4:38, they’re getting a 4-min dismount penalty…
holy crap…i’d say he’s on form again.
Yeah, he’s probably on ‘something’ again…
Personally, couldn’t give a damn - cheat.
Or…let’s see Bjorn run after that ![]()
Seriously though, the question wasn’t whether Tyler is a good triathlete, it was, how would a top level tri-cyclist do against a top pro tour rider. I think we know the answer now…

Oh, but we don’t know how bad Norman would smoke him
Tyler didn’t hafta reach down and pick up the broken remnants of his aerobar every time he wanted to shift either, so I’m not sure you can really call this a fair apples-to-apples comparison, given Bjorn’s mechanical difficulties.
But yeah, that’s a SMOKIN’ bike split on that course. Damn.
(And Tyler’s swimmer didn’t go off course, so he wasn’t in a position mentally to hafta try to make up ground, he just had to ride his own ride. That can’t have been a good place for Bjorn’s head to be starting off)

BFD…let’s see him run after that.
Haim
We’ll get a chance. Tyler says he wants to race an Ironman.
holy crap…i’d say he’s on form again.

No meters, he just went by perceived effort. He said in the post race interview that he trains with a power meter and heart rate, but when he races he just goes by feeling.
So because he doesn’t have to run makes it less of an accomplishment? Why can’t you see the ride for what it was? It was a great ride regardless.
I’m assuming your response was meant as a response to Haim? I never disparaged his ride in any way.
"but we don’t know how bad Norman would smoke him "
PLEEEAAAZZZZE stop. It’s gotta be a dead issue after today.
I assume you were kidding?
Why would it be dead after today? Didn’t Bjorn ride with a broken aerobar?
Not that I think there’s any way the top triathletes could hang with the top Euro pros.
“I’m not sure you can really call this a fair apples-to-apples comparison”
Bjorn had already lost almost ten minutes to Tyler when the problem arose. I’m sure it was a hinderance for the rest of the ride, but there is no way he would have beat Tyler today.
Roadies are faster - now suck it up.
Let’s be honest, no matter what happened today, if either pro cyclist had the fastest split someone would have had an excuse why it proves nothing.
on the streaming interview he says he didn’t use a powermeter or heart rate monitor and just raced by feel.
damn, he’s fast…

Again, you are ultimately right, but Bjorn’s aerobars came loose 10 miles into the bike and if the live updates are correct he had actually put time into Tyler at that point.
