Two tips needed (bar install)

I’ve put a pair of Jammers on my road bike, but they won’t hold tight to the bars. The plastic inserts that make them fit the standard bar are nice and slippery. My only idea is to wrap some electrical tape around the bar to make it fatter and then clamp on the Jammers. Anybody else got an idea?

Also – there is just nowhere to put the bike computer (Powertap). On the regular TT bike I can mount it out on the extensions with one of those adapter things. Is there any nifty device that allows one to mount a computer over the stem? Any other ideas? Otherwise, I will have to mount it outboard of the Jammer clamps, and always be moving my arm to look at it.

Thanks, friends!

Can’t offer any help on the aero bars - it sure seems odd that the manufacturer would supply nice, slick plastic shims to make them fit. Anyway, about the PT - I just got a new wiring harness kit for my PT Pro and it came with a stem mount (about time!). It’s a curved plastic piece with a grippy rubber piece stuck to the concave side so it’ll grip onto the stem. Couple o’ zip ties and you’re good to go. The computer mount attaches to the plate. I’m guessing you could contact the good folks at Power Tap and purchase only the stem mount kit.

Well…I was just about to give my “stem mount” rig…but if they’ve got an actual part now…so much the better…

FWIW…I mount mine on my road bike’s stem…two zip ties through the standard mounting holes…tightened down to create two loops…then just zip tie underneath the stem and connect the loops…tighten it up…I used a small swatch of black toolbox liner foam under the mount to keep it from slipping…works like a charm…and if you do it really well…with black zip ties…it looks pretty darn clean…

The same thing happened to me. Electrical tape defintely did not do the trick. My mechanic outfitted it with some shims he had in the shop after my unsuccessful attempts on my own.

If you have an old tube laying about, cut that sucker up and use the rubber for a shim. Electrical tape sometimes gets slippery after a while and loses its adhesion.

agreed. I used tube rubber shims to stabilize my Profile Century aerobars until I upgraded to Syntace. Worked fine for the 2+ years I had them mounted. I’d also heard that shims made from a Coke can work, but didn’t try it since the rubber worked fine. Clean the rubber and bars with acetone or similar, so they’re all squeaky clean.

Dunno on the computer mount. I’m not happy with where mine is, on an extension, since I sometimes bump it on the way in/out of the aerobars. May tinker with kludging up a stem mount sometime this year…
