Today while paroozing around SBR I noticed that the Bont’y carbon clinchers have holes in the sidewalls of the wheels, 180* apart from each other. The general opinion was that they were for water to drain as the wheel spun, but they weren’t at the outside edges, they were about an inch inward. One person speculated they were part of the tooling, but that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Does anyone have any idea why they are there? The holes were very small, >2mm. (It slipped my mind to snap a pic.)
My guess is that they are used to inflate a bladder of some sort during the molding process. That fairing isn’t strong enough on it’s own to stand up to much pressure. But that’s just a guess.
Those are speed holes. You should add them to all your tyres.
water drainage. all the JETs have them, too.
