Took off the moustache. Got home and my four year old daughter had this really funny stunned expression on her face. Wife of 11 years (who has never seen me without it) just stared and stared. Both daughters want me to grow it back immediately, which I will do. Everyone says I look much younger without it (don’t care), and I couldn’t tell if I was faster on the bike or in the water.

Borrowed a RP aero helmet for a race this weekend. On a trial ride last night, I was sweating buckets after only 5 miles. It’s heavy, and I could feel the strain on my neck trying to keep it low on the back (which it isn’t very). Kept sliding forward on my head, pushing my sunglasses down. I think I may go for the ol’ taped road helmet. The aero helmet may be faster, but I don’t think I’ll be faster.
The good news for this S. Jersey sprint (and probably the rest of the non-ocean-swim triathlons in NJ this summer) is that wetsuits are not allowed. The bad news is because this lake is already at 84*. This will be my first race (since the Speedo days of the late 80s) that I’ll wear only (De Soto) shorts the whole way. No top, no socks. She Who Must Be Obeyed says I look fit enough to go without a top. If anyone here is at the Sunset Sprint Triathlon, look for the yin/yang disk cover or the mostly-tanned face and say hello.
