Twitter Losing Money, Users in U.S. Donald Trump Hardest Hit

I’m a huge First Amendment supporter, but if Twitter could manage to dry up and fade away – through market forces, of course – that’d be great.

One salutary effect of the social media platform’s exit from this mortal coil would be that our current president would have to find some other way – such as a policy position paper, maybe, or a speech to a large audience or something else equally unorthodox – to communicate with the world at 3:30 A.M. or any other time of the day or night.

"Twitter reported Thursday that its monthly user base in the U.S. declined to 68 million in the most recent quarter from 70 million in the previous quarter.

Its global user base was 328 million, unchanged from the prior quarter. Analysts had been expecting Twitter to add at least a few million users…

Twitter has been struggling to win more advertising dollars in the face of lackluster user growth. In the most recent quarter, the company’s revenue fell 5% from the same period a year earlier."

I really like twitter for aggregating news. For me, science news in particular. There is right around jack shit science news on regular media site so it’s very nice I can pull up a lot of the latest stuff without searching.

A lot of the space probe, telescopes, NASA projects have their own handles so they’ll post pictures of what is going at that time.

Beyond that it’s a complete waste of time for most things. For triathletes it’s how many sponsors can you tag in one post.

There is always Facebook. If they shut that down too I’d be okay with that.

So you’re telling us that you’re a smart guy with intellectual interests.

If that’s what twitter needs to rely on to stay afloat, I think its doomed.

(note: that’s a dig on the the populace, not you).

According to this 2015 AdWeek article, the typical #Twitter user is a young, affluent, college-educated, non-white male.

I call BS on this study.

“According to Pew’s findings, the typical Twitter user continues to be an 18-29 year-old educated minority with a well-paying job, and is slightly more likely to be male than female.”
