Looks like the local LR viewers teased out the conclusion of this episode correctly about 2 weeks ago. It was well done, I particularly enjoyed the symbolism of fire, and as noted in the talking dead following I found it intriguing that Carol was seeing the fires in the flash backs, and Darryl was creating them in the present.
It really seems to me that the only question left is which one does the group save, Beth or Carol? Or is it possible we see both saved?
I didn’t like the episode. It was slooooooooooow!!! At least we now know Carol wasn’t a plant and was genuinely hurt when taken to the Hospital. I’ll be mad if they let her die of her injuries. That’s no way for bad ass Carol to go… Next question, did the car hit her on purpose or on accident? Seems to me like it was on purpose. As they eluded to on Talking Dead, how the heck do you manage to get hit by the only car on the road?
I wasn’t convinced either was as to weather it was accidental or on purpose.
However, it was a comedic and lazy set up on the part of both the Noah ambush and the car strike, as Carol should not/would not have been as careless as she was during these scenes.
I agree it was slow, however as I said previously I enjoyed the episodes for the character development. I really enjoy who Carol and Darryl have become. I also enjoyed the images of a ruined city.
“I’ll be mad if they let her die of her injuries.”
No chance of that. As was theorized in the thread last week, they’ll perceive her to be weak, and will take care of her to be another worker (or whatever term they use for Beth and her like).
Well I was 1000% off, yikes. They’re not going to let Carol the character die, so I’m saying she pulls through on her own. OR, Beth doesn’t turn off the machines and gets in more trouble. But perhaps Carol comes through right as they are about to kill Beth.
The tv world is not at all like the comic world. I mean that in a general sense, not in a TWD plot sense. The comics go for shock and awe. You would not believe what they do in the comics and no character, short of Ric, is safe. In the tv world, you have to worry about ratings, about viewer “feelings,” and about continuity.
Carol is a wuss and long, long dead in the comics. Daryl does not exist in the comics. Beth does not exist in the comics. So, these three characters are purely creations of the tv show. Given the nature of tv shows, I do believe they all can live. Not sure they will, but, if I had to bet, I would bet on both Beth and Carol surviving.
I wasn’t convinced either was as to weather it was accidental or on purpose.
The car hitting her was on purpose (albeit somewhat lucky) - this is what these cops do. Notice how every person they bring into the hospital happens to have at least some sort of internal injury? Beth didn’t get a concussion and break her wrist fighting off a zombie, nor did the (now dead) doctor get internal bleeding from “jumping out of a window”. They purposefully injure their targets in order to bring them in, heal them, and them put them into servitude to pay off their debt.
The only person who is turning a blind eye to these activities is Dawn, who probably knows it’s happening but doesn’t want to believe it and doesn’t want to lose control of the hospital.
I actually really liked the episode - it brought back a lot of old imagery from season1 there are a lot of easter eggs if you closely. I am worried that next episode will be purely filler content as they prep for the hospital attack in the mid-season finale.
Then I saw Beth dies, and Carol was with Daryl when he goes back to the church.
At the end of the episode, Daryl is returning to the church with Noah in order to recruit members of the group for an attack on the hospital. When he emerges from the woods at the church, a hobbled Noah is (presumably) in tow.
I suspect that Noah will be instrumental in getting them into the hospital, but probably won’t live much beyond that point. Of the three key players (Carol, Beth, and Daryl), Carol has endured the most, and keeps skating through. She has become as integral as Rick (w/r/t character strength), but is long overdue for departure (like a cat on her ninth life).
There is more to develop between Beth and Daryl, so I doubt that either of them will be going anywhere. I think that this episode drew a strong line between Carol and Daryl in terms of their interests. She seemed to take a more parental tone, which (to me) signals that she will probably die performing one last act of valor during the siege, paving the way for a Daryl and Beth story line.
I haven’t watched this episode yet, but I think Noah is instrumental in the story line. He’s going to get them to the place in VA he comes from, which seems to be the major direction the story line goes in the comics. Without Noah they’d have to come up with some other means of getting the group there, and it wouldn’t have made much sense to plant the information that that is where Noah is from.
