Found a new pool here in Coachella, two lanes but this one has gutters!! Just opened today so will see what crowds are like once word is out, but 83.5 and felt absolutely great..
Glad you are coming back to form PP, time to start getting ready for that next AG!! I found a new pool in the antelope valley today, 7 lanes, nice 83.5 temp, and only 6 folks showed up. No pace clock though, so trusty Timex Ironman watch put into play for first time in years. Felt pretty good, did some mid distance stuff mostly;

You not swimming these days, just the occasional surf session?
Got in the new local pool yesterday and took one of Dans portable pace clocks, fail. Battery was not charged up and it took a dump after a few minutes, charging now for round two.. Moderate day for me, need to start the IM build;

got in for 30 today. A little bit or warm up and then 20 minutes of a mix of 50s and 100s on 120. Scm. Considering doing a surf event tomorrow if no rain tonight
500 snorkel, 6x100IM, 1:15 for hard 100 oh dear, 5x50, 250 snork.
hr went to 160s and slowly down, still 120 after a minute rest after each set, with several missed beats. complete crash following race season, took a couple weeks off but it’s looking like I need more..
Well Doug, you either more rest, or less. Could be just got out of shape over the off weeks, it happens a lot quicker and deeper as we age. Maybe just some slow longish stuff for a few days and see if you come round on the HR.
I just had two days completely off and I had a mix of taper and total sluggishness. But did get one of the two lanes in the low cool pool all to myself, so opted for an aerobic day. Plus I think I might get lucky later on, a real consideration these days as to my intensity!! (-;

had some surf races on the weekend, and used some racer tricks.
i was on a faster swim’s feet but he took a wider line at the can, and got caught up behind the wave in front. i took the sharp line, dove under and pulled around on the rope. he kind of gave up on chasing me down after that, after i got about 3 or 4m on the turn.
absolutely cannot get off the sand as fast as about 90% of the rest of the field, but lucky its a swim race once we get out there.
very nice conditions, fairly flat, with a bit of head on chop coming back in. and some clean small waves to surf in too.
back in today for 50 minutes, just going by feel and breaking it up. no more than 400 straight.
LCM
1000 (17:26)
3x100 on 1:45 (hold 1:34)
Get out of pool, notice nobody around, get back in pool
200y/200m as down/back lane 1, flip turn under lane line, d/b lane 2, d/b lane 3, d/b lane 4, d/b lane 5 (LCM), d/b lane 6
Yes, I was the only person in the entire pool the whole time.
thats a good deal. dont tell people where you live as they will be lining up at the pool!
got an hour in today of just keep moving. backed off the time cycles a bit, just trying to keep the pace but not push the hr up as high. fun few days on the tools ahead (key board)
Fun stuff that you get to do some surf racing, suppose you are in your summer now too? For your slow start off the beach, perhaps try and work your underwater dolphin on the last dive under the waves, for some reason a lot of guys have not figured that out yet as a solid start tactic. Ought to put you on some fast feet from the gun, and that’s where you want to be anyway..
Got to my temp local pool, didnt have high hopes as yesterday’s run and gym was super sluggish and slow. But F me, felt great today, stroke felt fast, so I decided to go with it. This old man taper bingo is getting tiresome..
Good tips, thank you. Will add that to the dolphin diving part. I usually am pretty good once I can dive down and grab the sand, and push up. Its just the running part, you would look away if you saw it LOL
