Anyone have any idea where I can get a room? I called about 12 places and nothing. Anyone stay in Saranac Lake before, any suggestions? I camped last year, but due to crying babies and late night arrivals, I want a room this year. I thought it would be easy to get a place this far out!!!
We are staying at the Ampersand Bay and Boat Club in Saranac Lake. Its about 15 miles from the race start. They will rent for the one night only (which was important to me as I only live 3 hours from Tupper) and the rooms look very nice. It’s a bit pricey (around $300 for a cabin that sleeps 6).

last year we stayed at the Saranac Lake Hotel right in the center of town run by the hotel school. It was cheap (89 bucks a night) but the walls were paper thin. I have an aversion to TV and they were blaring on each side of us, which sucked, especially the night before and after the race. But the price was good and there’s a great dining room downstairs with excellent food. Good luck. It’s a really fun race and the landscape around there is simply gorgeous.
I’ve done Tupper Lake 10 times and camped right by the Tzone around 8 times. Typically, there are around 10 tents that show up at dusk right near the “no camping” sign. The local “authorities” seem to tolerate this flagrant violation of the local bylaws for the nite before the race. Best of all, you can’t miss the start, and there is a MacDonalds right across the street for breakfast.
