Tundra Time Trial- Atlanta, GA

Anyone doing it this Saturday? I have signed up- and the weather looks like it might be dry- hopefully!

Yes, ready to start racing again!

Actually did a test run a couple weekends ago and nearly (pinch)flatted on the bridge on the way out. I’m a little worried what it will be like to hit it with 19mm tires… no time to test ride it again.

I’ve checked four different weather sources. Three say 50% rain chance, one says sunny and dry. All say 50s through the morning hours which will be nice.

As for the bridge … dang. I’ll be sporting homemade 650c latex tubes in my new Vittorias. Should be an intersting test. Glad to be forewarned.

.

I’ll be there, but I just rolled my ankle tonight and it’ll be interesting to see how it feels Saturday morning.
It’s pretty swollen and I’m figuring it’ll be even worse tomorrow morning.
Such is life…

Mark,

I guess we’ll get to meet for sure. Your start time is 30 seconds before mine.

Francis,

Mike Olheiser will be there. You better nurse that ankle. Mike’s a former world champion.

Day-um! There’s some motivation for both of you! Good luck and post a race report, please.

I’ll be there as well. Don’t worry too much about that lip. I’ve just taken a bit of weight off of my aerobars and rolled right over it. You can even pick up a bit. The lip 1/4 mile from the start is worse IMO. Weather will be awesome!

I will be there! I have extra motivation to go fast, the wife is right behind me and she has been on fire riding lately.

I will be there, too.
As it is my first race of this kind at all. I would like to know when I have to show up?
Do I need to be there like 8 am to pick up the start# etc. or is it o.k. to show up like 30 min before I start?

Thanks

Kim

I’m there again. I look forward to this race every year. It will be nice to have a late start time and good weather depending on the winds. You start a bit after me I think. Should be really nice according to Weather.com by the time we roll out, 50s and low wind.

I’m in 10:53 start
.

Mike Olheiser is a former and the current masters WORLD TT champ, multiple masters RR national champ, 2nd at elite nationals last year in the TT… strong is an understatement.

Bob- It will be nice to say hello in person tomorrow.

Oh jeez… I start two minutes before him.

lets hear the race reports.

I’m local. thought of doing this TT this year, having never done one before. i would’ve been late signing up and therefore starting earlier. opted out due to weather (yeah, that’s it…the weather).

any carnage?

How’d the kids from Frazier do?

It was a good race. the weather damp and chilly. This was my first time doing the Tundra race. It was very well organized. I was too conservative on the 1st leg and finished strong. I finished in 23.58 (according to my computer - don’t have the official time yet) with an avg of 23.3mph.

Those look like good numbers to me, especially considering it was your first Tundra.

Congrats

I’m going to get to a couple(?) of the Georgia Cup TT events. See ya there.

What was the distance that you recorded?

9.27 miles. I was off by a few seconds on both ends

It was good to see some ST’ers today- some again and some for the first time. Francis smoked the course and finished 3rd overall- even after recovering from a sprained ankle. I finished right after Francis- and missed out on some of the nicest overall awards that I’ve ever seen before- a beautiful wooden base/engraving- with a one of a kind blown glass- sculpture depicting something or a part of a bicycle- truly amazing works of art link.

I think Francis has a nice wall of these by now. Bob- was there sporting home made 650c latex tubes! Winds were relatively calm- slight headwind and slight false flat going out and the reverse coming home. The course was wet- with some light showers- but I was lucky it wasn’t raining when I went.

Anyone get an accurate distance? Best rider turnout- approx 350 riders. Olheiser won overall- no surprise- and his jersey sporting world time trial champ stripes (masters 30-34) is something you don’t see everyday. I asked him- if he knew his power- his answer- ‘I don’t use power- never have, and don’t use HR or a bike computer. Just go by feel- and use a stop watch’. Seems to work quite well for him- for training and racing.

What was the winning time?
