I have been thinking of using tubulars and found this video on youtube.

What do you think of Tufo tape as the adhesive? Are there any problems that you can see with this video as information? From the video it looks simple enough and most post on ST are pretty positive for the time savings in changing a flat tubular over a flat clincher. If this has been covered in the past please post the url.
do a search… it’s been discussed to death.
I’ll sum it up for you; Tufo sucks.
There is tons of data on this topic if you do a search. For those of us who use Tubulars, the convenience, and less mess you gain with tape,
will be time you give back on your bike split, unless you like going slower in a race. ![]()

I was using Tufo extreme tape with Tufo Elite Jets for about a year and they kept me SLOWER for about a .5-1 min. in sprint triathlons compare to my current setup (Vittoria Cronos EVO CS glued with Mastic cement). I will NEVER use Tufo tape again…
How is this possible? Seems that unless there is a weight change there should not be a difference in rolling resistance. Am I missing something?
google: hystereisis
.
I too used the Tufo tape before going to the Mastik. I just wasn’t comfortable that the Tufo didn’t glue up the side of the rim. Strong stuff though and I probably didn’t have to worry about the tire rolling off, but I did. Don’t know that it made me slower.
rroof I do believe you meant hysteresis correct?

Tufo Elite Jets with Tufo Extreme tape were a bit lighter than my current ‘Vittoria’ setup, but comparison of my bike splits on the same courses ‘before tufo’, ‘with tufo’ and ‘after tufo’ consistently show ‘tufo’ setup slowness. Well, it could be combination of tires/tape. I later found some more about Tufo tape in paper** Tubular Tire Adhesion Performance - Part Examination of Tubular Tire Adhesion to** Colin S. Howat Kurata Thermodynamics Laboratory Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering
Tested Continental glue along with Vittoria Mastik’One, Panarace Panacement, Clement Gutta and Tufo tape,* Conclusions* Mastik’One is the best of the tested glues for carbon fiber rims. Tufo Tape is inferior to conventional glues in both aluminum and carbon fiber applications. If you want to give Tufo tape a try - good luck.
The most important factor in low rolling resistance is the suppleness, or flexibility of the tire, not weight. As a generalization lighter tires tend to be more supple, but it all depends; the Tufo tires I used briefly were very light, but also very stiff, not supple at all.
