Tubular tire recomendations for race wheels?

anyone have favorites? for what its worth going on a disk rear and deep front.

thanks!

Go ahead and make fun of me:

I run Conti Comps 700x22 on my Zipp 999 set. It’s all I have ever run. They may be slow, but they never, ever, flat. Peace of mind is worth a few (or a dozen or so) watts to me :).

I am sure the speed type gurus will recommend something else, or tell you to straight up switch to clinchers. Good luck with your decision.

thanks!

I am actually making the switch to tubies for this season so just looking at options for tires.

The Zipp tires are probably worth a look. I think they tested o.k. in the last results I saw. Some other goods ones as well. Do a search on the forum for data.

searching as we speak.

have also heard good things about the corsa evo CX.

searching on…

based on reading seemingly millions of posts on this I think the evo cx are a good way to go. Just bought a replacement for the one I flatted with in september , $46 from probikekit.com with free shipping.

That’s a very nice tire and an incredible price!

.

Vittoria Evo Corsa CX. Glue them with the Vittoria cement with the black writing.

Thread over.

I think anyone riding a Veloflex Record or Carbon would question whether or not the thread is over…

They would question why they wasted their cash.

Over and Out.

FWIW - I raced for 15+ years at a modestly high level, mostly on Continental Competition GP’s. I never flatted in a race including 9 IM races and about 18 half-IM races. I had one slow leaker that I discovered after an event. However, the tire police here on ST seem to think that Contis are awful, so your mileage may vary

I will heartily second Fleck’s opinion! Great. light tires, and you won’t have to worry about a flat. Mine have lasted for many years! Well worth the price, and peace of mind.

But are they available in 650’s? Seems like my options are becoming limited.

I see you are in Pickering, ON.

Phone Endurosport in Toronto. I know they have a selection of 650 Tubular tires:

I second/third Fleck’s recommendation regarding Contis. I switched from the EVO Corsa CX to Contis because of and for durability.

That’s what I was going to do. I just switched to Michelins on my clincher 700 roadbike wheels and will, if thy can get them, put them on my tri bike training wheels but I just scooped a set of Zipp 400 tubies so I was wondering what was still around. I will check with Dan and Co.
thanks

My tubular experience has been mostly limited to Continental (Sprinter & Comp) and Veloflex (Carbon & Record). I felt that the Veloflex were superior in every category that matters to me. Seem to be put together better, much easier to put on straight, ride nicer, etc.

The rolling resistance tables I’ve seen also say Veloflex are among the fastest. I believe that to be true, although I’ve never formally tested that myself.

Here are some rolling resistance testing, I think the best tube was the Velo Flex.

Dan…

At the FIST camp that my store manager, Greg, went to John Cobb was there. He spoke highly of the Competition 19s in terms of being some of the fastest tires out there.
