Tubular thoughts and disk wheels

ok, I FINALLY got out yesterday on tubular tires and my new disk.

  1. Is there a difference? Hard to say. I am riding Continental Sprinters on a HED front and Renn rear. There does seem to be a bump at the valve. Better ride? I couldn’t tell. However, if they are less flat prone, I’m all for it.

  2. Would different tires make a difference? I have a set of Vredesteins, but I’m not remounting to see. I chose Continental and I will wear these out. Also, I’m not buying any more tires until these two sets are used up. Maybe I should have sprung for TUFO. Oh well.

  3. Disk wheel noise. Guys at my LBS told me that disks were noisy on rough roads and they were right. Mine is a 575, is this typical? It rattles a lot, but it’s not loose. If I go faster, I’m happy, it’s not that bad. And it looks cool. I cruised between 22 -25 mph on a 45 minute ride. At least I’m not going 15 and looking like an idiot. Of course, I could be going 25 and looking like an idiot, who can say?

my renn is noiser on bumpy roads than my hed was. that and if you stop pedalling everybody w/in 50m knows your there.
If you have a bump at the valve you may not have positioned the valve very well. I’ve never had that happen.

yeah, I noticed that noise, too. What do you mean about the valve? It’s straight. It would be hard to redo it because I used TUFO tape.
