I have not been riding tubies for long and have never flatted, but would like to go into my next race well prepared for all possibilities. I am not concerned about the process of changing the tire, but don’t know how to prep the spare for gluing on the road. Suggestions?
Hello,
First get an old rim and prestretch the spare for a day or two. Then apply glue to the spare like you would normally (a very thin layer) and allow to dry at least overnight. If you need to change the tire, take off the old, and put on the new - do not use more glue. Pump up the tire as much as possible and ride the brakes lightly for a few seconds to heat the rim a bit.

Good advice from smtyrell99. Another option is to put new tires on your race wheels and use the old ones for spares. Having brand new tires for my key race of the season gives me peace of mind.
I already have my race wheels prepared with new tires, but since my next race is full Iron distance I did not want to go in discounting the possibility of a flat. Hopefully not an issue though.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
