Tubluar tire recommendation road racing and TT based on Crr

Looking to get some new rubber for next year. I know the answer for clinchers tires but looking for general help for tubular tires.

Wheels get moved back and forth between TT bike and road bike so hopefully the same answer for both.

I found a table over at biketechreview that gives values for Crr for tubulars and clinchers. The data seems great but I’ve got some questions.

Looking at just the Vittoria Corsa EVO CX in the table I see
A 23 Crr =.00254 ( I’ll call that 254 from here on out ) .
A 21 Crr = 267
A 21 Crr = 275
A 22 Crr = 296

Two questions

  1. Understand that a wider tire should lower the Crr but the 22 throws me off. I didn’t even know there was a 22. ?
  2. Why are there different values for the 21 ? One is for new tires one is for used tires. Does that really play a role ?

Are there other charts/tables out there with data ? Maybe I’m over thinking this to much. I hate throwing away free watts though. Yes I understand checking my tire pressure is the most free watts I can get.

yes, tire crr improves with wear, but aero tends to get worse

Good tires to look at would be the new Zipp tubies and Schwalbe Ironman (not the old tangentes, but the new ones), and Veloflex Record.

All of these options are somewhat delicate, so you may have to replace them fairly often.
