Tubeless Clinchers

Michelin’s tubeless clinchers to go public in 2005. Anyone know anything more about these?

(story about half way down page in following link:)

I dont get it … thats why there are tubulars

Seems pointless, as you must replace the tubeless tire if it punctures (unless you can get Stans goo in it) - so you have to carry a spare TIRE when you ride … instead of a tube or rolled up tubular

I think it is an interesting idea, but for what application?

Hmmm

I think their main advatange is less weight (that of the tube), and supposedly less flats.

I heard they are gonna be very expensive though (atleast in the first year/few years).

That’s one part that worries me. The other being that I have always used Axial Pro/Pro Race tires and really like them and does this mean they will become extinct?

Oh, and also, they mentioned needing a special rim. This is starting to sound expensive!

Dan

less weight?

Knowing that UST tires for MTB are heavier than a tube/tire set up, I wonder if Michelin is following the same pattern with the UST road tires

The weight may be even with tubulars, but they take more time to change out than tubulars during a flat in a race.

Also, you can only use them on UST rims, so only Mavic will have them available at first

AND

you cannot use them on tubular carbon wheels

I think Mavic has forgotten about tubular tires.
