Looking towards buying a pure TT rig for next season over the winter. I ride a Madone and just love the heck out of this thing and am considering a TTX simply b/c of the feel of the Trek carbon.
Any of you out there care to lend your review of the TTX?
I am one of the less flexible guys out there and I have read where the head tubes are a bit taller on these helping out the flex challenged crowd as well…thanks for the reviews:)
I have both the Madone and the TTX. The TTX was fitted to match the fit of the Madone. While it is not the most aero, it is one of the most comfortable rides I have ever ridden. 7 hour rides in the TTX are no problem. For the record I am not flexible either. As far as short HT, I ride the large with no spacers on it with no issues.
On a side not spring for the SSL if you can. It is worth the extra $$$.

Just out of curiosity, what size Madone are you on vs. the TTX?
I ride a 58 Madone SL, but have 3 5mm spacers and about a 1" bar drop from my saddle to bar tops.
Since there is no way I will ever pay list at an LBS I am going to be buying my TTX used…thanks!
The deals out there right now from people who were living highly leveraged lifestyles are amazing. I picked this Madone 5.2 SL up for 1300…with a ton of extras including a CycleOps Fluid.
Oh no I had no idea they might have carbon steerer tubes.
I hope they don’t actually. Watched a guy in Georgia snap a carbon steerer tube in a pace line and get obliterated…not to mention he took out about 20 guys.
I won’t be looking at new ones if they are carbon steerer tubes:(

Kind of like that time Big George’s aluminum steerer sheered off? I wouldn’t avoid a bike just because it has a carbon steerer.
The TTX you can almost fall asleep and still hit a straight line. I rode a 07 TTX, I wont buy anything from trek based on their customer servce but the bikes are top shelf.
I ride a Madone in a 58 and a Medium TTX with no spacers. I’m not sure why someone mentioned that they aren’t the most aero bike out there because it’s likely among the best. The TTX handles nicely.

I guess I will have to really go sit on one and do some measurements. My saddle height is 81cm from center of bb to top center of saddle. I just don’t want to end up with 2 feet of post hanging out and a ton of bar drop. It’s rainy today so I’m going to head up to the Trek store and kick around…
I’ve ridden a small TTX 9.5 for the past two seasons from sprints up to Ironman distance. It took me a bit to get the fit dialed in, but that would have been the same with any bike. I absolutely love my bike and almost always prefer to ride it over my road bike, which is a great bike as well. There is just something about the TTX that I find very comfortable and easy to ride. As others have said, it is extremely stable and will keep a line without having to think about it. I live in a very hilly area, and I find that it is very comfortable to climb and descend on. I really have no complaints with the bike.
That is great to read! I can’t imagine it being any less of a sweet ride than my Madone and am excited to find one…I have plenty of time to shop around and tire kick. Thank goodness there are people out there who upgrade their bikes a lot b/c I sure don’t plan on paying top $ at the LBS…ouch these beauties are salty expen$ive!
No joke, every few rides I’ll be out there cruising along and I think to myself, “Man, this bike is awesome.” I’ve felt that way for 2 years! LOL. The only thing I did was swap the Bontrager crank with an Ultegra so it is now a full Ultegra bike. The 2010 models only come with SRAM, but since you’re buying used you won’t have to worry about that. Good luck in your search!
Yea I’m really psyched in that I found out the biggest discomfort issue I had with TT positions was hip angle. Never knew why until I joined this site…now I do. Have fooled around with my pals extra bike to experiment with smaller cranks.
Have been on 175’s with a roadie forever and felt great. Get on bars…cramped.
Tried 172.5…better…170…BUTTA!
At 6’1" it might seem nuts to some with a 34.5" inseam, but the 170’s feel great and I can’t wait to get adjusted to my own TT frame with the smaller cranks so I can really get after it. Once again, the knowledge base of this forum unlocked another nugget of knowledge…
I was going to get it repainted for this season. Turned out to be a small crack in the carbon, by the head tube. They told me it was from impact most likely a rock so it wouldnt be covered by warranty. Mostly it mad me mad that I spent 5000 on a bike that the company wasnt even willing to help me out. I emailed other bike companies to ask them what would they do and I recieved really nice answers. Eventually trek said I could get one at cost, but I was really careful with it. Never laid it down, washed it every week, pretty much babyed the hell out of it.
Mostly everyone I talked has good experiances with trek, but it put me off. Another reason Im sticking with alum. When I spend that much on a bicycle I expect alittle service too.
only come with SRAM – I wouldn’t view that as a downside, loved the old Ultegra 9sp, have been repeatedly disappointed by Ultegra 10sp, and am loving my new SRAM Red. The only thing that would pull me back to Shimano would be the electronic shifting.

I am looking for a good used TTX myself although there does not seem to be a whole lot of them on the used market, at least compared to the road bikes (for the obvious reason that road bikes are much more popular). Ebay has a few good deals on them from time to time but not many.
If anyone is looking to sell a medium sized TTX, contact me!
