TT/Tri Di2 Shifters - Brake/Shifter Combo or Aerobar? Or both?

@leahnp could you please draw out your set-up?

I bought new Ultegra 6770 di2 tt shifters to use with regular mechanical brakes (i.e. no shifters) and thought I could use the 4-way Junction B box to tie them into my old EM-41 Junction A box.

But nothing from my gears once connected up?! What have I missed?! Do I need the regular bar-end brake/shifter to route the TT shifter through? Or upgrade the firmware on the system?

You should be more precise on what you have for Di2 compnents. I don’t know of any Ultegra 6770 TT extension shifters. Are you referring to ST-R671 extension shifters? You’ll want to check your Di2 component firmware. With your external battery system this will require the SM-PCE1 programmer.

These bad boys. Apologies for confusion. The box they came in had Ultegra 6770 on the front. Maybe because they’re part of the overall 6770 Groupset?

I think you’re right regarding the firmware update. I called three LBS today and none of them have the pc interface cable for the older Di2 system!

Not sure about the labeling. The 671s were not associated with a particular Shimano component line. At their site they would be shown under general road components. They were not available when the 10 speed Ultegra Di2 was released which may be why Probikekit has them listed as 11 speed.

Be careful about what u are asking the LBS wr to the Di2 programmer. The PCE1 is not an old programmer. It is the current programmer for all e-tube Di2 systems. If you are verbally asking for the OLD programmer, the shops probably think you are asking about the first gen Dura Ace Di2 7970 programmer. Ask them, if they have an e-tube programmer available.

Ok thanks,

I believe there are two forms of interfacing with the Di2 system, the newer one is plugging a usb directly into the Junction A under the stem or the satellite component in the end of the handlebar. The other form plugs directly into the battery or individual component via the e-tube wire and a black box, that the usb is then plugged into.

I need the latter since I don’t have the newer junction box. That’s my understanding anyway.

Looks like that part you mention has the two options available in one?

SummitAK is right, you need to refine your terminology.

“old” Di2 implies the non supported 10 speed Dura Ace Di2 (7970) that is NOT compatible with e-tube. You do not have any of that.

“E tube” programmer implies the link that you have for the PCE-1, which will work with ANY e-tube setup. The only thing that changes is how you plug it into your system. You really should get a new junction A and internal battery, it will make your life much easier.

It’s very difficult keeping track of all the threads in which you have asked questions about your setup.

Ok fair enough. I think I’ve got it now. You guys are utter gents and have the patience of Job. If you’re ever in Dublin I’ll buy you all many pints

FYI

Just wanted to say thanks to you all, got my bar shifters installed and working great for my first race of the season last week. Just added a 4-way junction box and got my LBS to update the firmware on the existing components. Now for cable tidy up and some new wheels…
