TT Position CSC vs Discovery

Although I haven’t paid much attention to it in the past I’ve recently seen there are subtle differences in the TT positions of the CSC vs Discovery squads.

I’ve noticed that these changes have happened over the last two years. The US Postal/Discovery boys have always been up there, but there is a definite power shift with the CSC boys climbing up the TT ladder.

And I wondered if this new position is partly responsible for this.

Analysing Basso’s position, he tends to ride further forward in the TT position, and this is pretty much mirrored by most of the CSC boys. CSC seem to be right over the bottom bracket on top of the work, whereas the Discovery Team Time Trial position is a more rear biased, and is behind the work.

Is the position adopted by CSC a new way of thinking? Or have the teams found the optimum way to riding their respective TT framesets?

I have no insight into this other than I have noticed the same thing. Discovery (Postal) seems a little further back and a little higher up front on average as comapered to CSC. David K

I’ve made the same observation, but nobody can accuse either the Discovery/Postal team or Cervelo of not doing their homework. Should be some interesting TT’s at the TDF this year.
