TT Frame Size

I would like to setup a bike specific for some club time trials. I have a pair if ITM Dual handlebars and some old but good aero wheels. All I’m missing is the frame. I ride a 54cm road frame and need some advise on weither I should get a 54 or maybe go down to a 52cm. I’m just looking at getting a used steel or aluminum frame so I don’t have the luxury of being slective on angles and toptube lenghts.

Any advice would be helpful

i suggest getting properly fitted by a shop in your area that has experience with TT/tri fit

someone like Bicycle Sports www.bicyclesports.com or Bike Sport Michigan www.bikesportmichigan.com if you are anywhere near any of their stores

good luck

What you really have to consider is top tube length more so than frame size(which is measured by seat tube). Are you going to be more stretched out on the ITM bars? Most likely, so going to one size smaller than normal may not be a bad idea. I know a guy who rides a medium frame Giant TCR in group rides and has a small frame TCR fitted with Vision Tech bars for TT’s. Works fine this way for him because on the smaller frame he can get a bit lower and the shorter top tube works good with the Vision Tech bars.
