Does anywhere in Boulder rent TT bikes? It seems like all the shops there just have road bikes and mountain bikes, which is a bit of a surprise for such a big tri town. I’ll be there for Ironman 70.3 Boulder. I know Playtri rents them, but a basic TT bike is $549, was hoping to find something a bit more reasonably priced!
Check out Colorado multisport.
Or maybe one of the resident pros will let you borrow a bike.
Thanks for the suggestion. Doesn’t appear that they rent TT bikes, but might give them a call anyway, no harm asking!
You want to rent a bike to race on? Insert “Bold move cotton†meme here.
It seems like that may be the only choice, there’s definitely no issue finding a road bike to rent in Boulder. Would prefer not to lose a bunch of time on the bike though
Is traveling with your bike not an option? I’m sure you can rent/borrow travel cases, too. Hell, a cardboard box works, too.
rent the road bike, whichever one has the best wheels, low spoke count etc. Bring a pair of short aerobars and bolt them on, that gets you most of the way to the performance of any rental tribike…

I’m going to be in Europe for 5 weeks before the race, so won’t have a chance to go home and get my bike. As my training won’t be great was thinking of forgetting about the race, but am not thinking I may as well do it, if I can make it work.

So you’re going from 5 weeks in Europe without your bike to a race at elevation, on a rental bike… not trying to be rude but might I inquire about what your goal(s) are/is for doing this?
Could you box your bike up before you go, and have a friend ship it to you so it stunted around the time you do (or maybe a LBS could put it together for you in advance)??
What size bike are you looking for?

I’ll do a bit of riding when I can fit it in. I don’t have a goal for the race (if I end up doing it). Riding 56 miles at elevation on a rental bike shouldn’t be an issue. Doing it well would be an issue, but I’m not too fussed on the results

Possibly, but this will probably cost more than renting a TT bike from playtri. Just wanted to ask around and see what options there, as in a lot of places LBS rent TT bikes for a decent price, but I guess not in Boulder!
What size bike are you looking for?
A 56 or 58.
