Hey Hey!
How do you feel about bringing the TT bike to the France Ironman in Nice? To hilly or is it okay on the tri bike?
Kind Regards

no disadvantages to bringing a tt bike to that kind of course. actually, there are some big pluses to the positioning and aerodynamic advantages to a well-designed tt frame.
but there are big disadvantages to bringing a bike with tt handlebars to that kind of course.
Good question. I had the same one myself. I have no issues climbing on my TT bike, however, descents can be a bit tricky depending on how technical. I would think the TT bike still gives a faster time in Nice as long as you don’t eject yourself off the tarmac on a switchback!
It appears that the DreamCrusher believes that full aero is the way to go unless you want to “play the game” in which case you should use a road bike with clip-ons:
Thanks for the link it was a good read.
Regarding his bike ain’t a disc wheel a bit over the top for Nice? I was thinking going on a pair of zipp 808 clincher. Would that be a decent choice?
I would think 808’s would be perfect.
Nice post by Nat on his blog…now this has me wondering about what I should do about signing up:
If you are thinking of going to IM France:
I would bring a road bike with clip on bars with Hed Scorpio, or Ardenne wheels. Something that will handle beautifully. Your goal on the bike will be to make the best pack possible at the top of the hill. From there conserve energy, and eat. While drafting you will have lower heart rates which will allow you to digest your food. Don’t forget to stretch and get ready for the run. Keep your head up, get to the front for the descent, and then get back in the pack for the 20km run in to the bike finish. Laugh at the 50-100 people who actually rode the bike.
I have heard similar statements about Ironman Switzerland and Austria…are people really that bad?
Dev
I’m in the same situaution. My first intention was to sign up for Zürich but quickly changed my mind after reading countless statements from people complaining about the drafting issue in Switzerland. However I haven’t heard that much about drafting issuses in France, anyone who can comment on that one?
Would it be foolish to bring a disc to the race like i.e. Nat, or are the climbs to tough?
disc! ALWAYS! unless its one that you think will be hard to handle on the descents of course
don’t go and die
=)
Would it be foolish to bring a disc to the race like i.e. Nat, or are the climbs to tough?
The higher speed going flat and down hill with the disc will compensate for the weight increase going uphill with the disc?
Then there is the confidence boost knowing you are riding a disc and listening to the whooom whooom whooom
