So I did my local 10 on Thursday, pleased with the time, but now of course I want to go faster next week! However I have my first Middle Distance race the Sundy after - would doing the TT harm my performance on Sunday?
I want to do a good time at the Tri (say sub-5:00) but ultimately I’m more concerned about getting round. I’m easing off the training this week now, would the TT be a nice little wake-up call for legs and lungs?
Andy, of course the answer is, it depends upon the individual. However, I find that several coaches recommend to their athletes to do just such an event…but, about 4 days out. I’ve personally done a short TT (10 miles) on a Wednesday before a Saturday Olympic distance tri, and had an amazing (for mere mortal me) bike split in the tri. If you’re doing a half-iron distance…I THINK you’re pushing the envelope to do one this close…but for a sub 5 hour performer…who knows? Maybe do the TT, but concentrate on perfect form, not maximum speed…maybe it will be a good test to show you just how fast you can go without going as hard as you can.
Just remember, it’s better to show up undertrained than overtrained, however, if you can handle the load…more power to you! Good luck on your race!
Just feeling a bit of fatigue when I climb the stairs 2 at a time! I think I’ll give it a go, and have total rest the 2 days after it (and maybe eat like a pig).
