Trying to sell old dinner china

Anybody ever sell old dinner china. Found a stash of dinner china from my miserable, short first marriage. Trying to unload. Are their companies that buy it? What sort of discount should I expect from the original price 75 percent? 90?

Go to replacements unlimited and submit a photo and list of items, they will buy them if the market wants your pattern. 50% value is about what you will get.

Thanks. Does anybody think I could do better selling at a garage sale or on eBay?

We had to give my grandmothers to goodwill. It’s almost impossible to sell.

Never hurts to throw it out on Craigslist, no charge to find out.

seems like a perfect craigslist item.

google the name on the bottom of one of the plates and see what comes up. i bought a house that the previous owner left everything. and i mean everything. started going through things to have an estate sale, had a lot of china i thought would be worth some decent $$$, nope. found entire, 8 place settings of this stuff, with all the pieces there, i was missing a couple, for like $50. my mom and dad said they had a friend who likes antiques and they thought she would like it, so she got it. hope she’s enjoying it.

sidenote: the yamaha monitor speakers i thought i could get a couple hundred for are worth a couple thousand. i kept them. they’re amazing.

A little off topic…
We got married 8 years ago. Very traditional wedding and traditional guest registry (IE - spent way to much money on a 3 hour party and put stupid impractical things on our registry).
We have used the China that 'We HAD to HAVE at least 8 place settings for" two times. I think we may actually have 12 place settings and a bunch of crystal goblets, water glasses, etc.
I think each set of China was about $100. The crystal was probably the same.
What a f’ing waste of money. We used it for Christmas dinner two years in a row. We have since deciced that hand washing that crap is a waste of time. We now use high-quality plastic plates.

Garage sells are a complete waste of time - in most instances. You spend 2-3 days working to get stuff together (and put up afterwards) only to make a couple hundred bucks - at best. I would try Craigslist, otherwise donate to Goodwill and write off. I use Turbo Tax and It’s Deductible and get some great write-offs on the stuff I donate. I will never have a garage sell again.

Googling the set is a goodidea. We bought a used set a few years back for $200 that turned out to be a turn of the century Haviland set from France worth close to $1500-2,000. Score!

Depends on what it is. Good advice to check http://replacements.com/

My wife lost her job in September and she’s been doing well selling china and other old “crap” on eBay that’s been taking up space around the house for way too long. If you have all day, it’s not bad, but to work a regular job and list and pack a bunch of china can be a big pain.

One more for Replacements.com. We listed ours on Craigslist and tried to sell it at a garage sale, no dice. You basically tell them what you have/what condition it’s in and they give you an offer, which is good for a stated period of time (I can’t remember exactly, I want to say it was a few weeks.) You have that amount of time to send them your china (they are in North Carolina, I believe.) Once they receive your shipment and it matches what you stated as far as condition/# of pieces, etc. they’ll send you a check.

You can always get an offer and then try selling it on Craigslist, e-bay and see if you can get more $$. As others have said, there doesn’t seem to be a huge market for used china, but your mileage may vary.

Yes google name on bottom. But remember…Limoges ( haviland) Lenox , stangle, Meissen , sevres, cliff, etc…have been around for centuries or decades and used different marks ( signatures ) to. Denote years they were or who ( artist at porcelain studio) made them. And just because it is old does not mean it is worth more. For example I have a few porcelain bowls designed by Picasso and Andrew Wyeth that are worth more then some 1800 plates made by Limoges ( haviland) . Hope that helps a bit. I have made a good 2nd income off of buying andselling old stuff. Now i am into tri’s and have no time ;0) much to the dislike of my kids who loved the extra money around and toys they would get.

I tried to give my grandmother to goodwill but she found her way home after about a week.

Bazinga!
