OK, I know the Trukweaz “nordic rules on ST”…if you talk Nordic ski before Oct 1, we will jinx the arrival of snow…yes I realize that most of us are still in full bore tri training and racing, however, I start dryland training for the kids that I coach during the first weekend of October. They need it as most of them have Nintendo butt :-). I’ll be cracking out the rollerskis on October 1 when I will retire the Kuota Kalibur to the basement/trainer until it re-emerges in April for some sunlight before Wildflower or St. Croix.
Winter plans looks like: Eastern Canadian XC Championships 30K, Lake Placid Loppet 50K, Keskinanda World Loppet 50K, Defi Boreal 100K…all races skate ski. Also, may do the Winterlude triathlon in Ottawa (8K speedskate-5K XC ski-5K run).
Anything will be better than last winter in Ottawa.
Didn’t get a whole lot of skiing in last winter but (knock on wood) this winter should be different. Should be fun!
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I went to the “Worlds Largest Yard Sale” in Naperville, IL to look for a desk (got one for $25 which we sanded and painted and it looks great!). They had a pile of skis and poles so i asked a guy about getting some XC skis, he showed me three pairs and sounded very knowledgeable. I selected a pair of Rosignol skis with a holder and poles for a whopping $15 (used, in decent condition from the early 90’s) only to get home, do some research on the net…and find out they are actually downhill skis! DAMN! I was looking forward to giving XC skiing a try this winter.
Seriously, you guys need to move if you are thinking of XC skiing already. We just tied the record yesterday for 28 days above 110 for a summer. Today and tomorrow should be record extenders.
Now to think of it, maybe I should move. Dev or Kurt, got an extra bedroom?
Oh man, I’m ready!!! My twins are a year old this year so I can pull them in the pulk, and the other two girls are ready with their gear so I’m in this year!!! I didn’t get to ski much last winter (or race too much this summer), but now that the kids are getting older I’m ready to go…
I’m already planning for the Birkie this year because I’ll lose my wave placement if I don’t. I’d also love to head up to the Keski again, that was an awesome course.
Of course it was 85 and sunny here today, so it’s a long way off…
Don’t you have to run this by your resident squatter before making any plans, you know, now that he is famous and all?
No, when the room and board are free, you tend not to complain. But now that he is winning big money, I might have to charge him rent again.
For now though, jonny, the rule still stands: If you are not training today you are paying rent.
