True Texan "IM distance" race... who's in?

Probably no one here, as by the looks of it there were less than 30 (thirty) competitors last year. But I am signing up for this years event. After 2 IMdot events in 12 months I think I am ready for less glam, less hype, less of a race and more of a long aerobic training day with aid stations… which may well see me PR as maybe without the massive adrenalin spike and testosterone generated by all the other athletes “gunning for kona” I will actually pace myself appropriately and not end up shuffling the last 20k (again). Then I will start putting the pennies away for a “real” IM - IMAZ 06.

Oh, and if you are fast, don’t even think about entering the True Texan. Based on last year’s results, I have a pretty good shot at winning the darn thing!

Why not Degray Lake Half? Low-key race, well-supported, scenic course to boot…

do you have a website address?

…also just curious, why are you calling IMAZ a " real" IM.
I’m thinking of IMAZ 06 too.

THanks!

Its too bad I’m commited to Timberman 1/2IM in August.
If I wasn’t the Tall Texan is my kind race.
Maybe next year.

I won the open division last year. You might want to go ride that course (both the bike and run) before deciding it’s easy to win. Last year, the bike leg was 128 miles due to massive flash floods the morning of the race that wiped out the back section of the course. So, we rode to special needs (mile 64) and retraced the route. So, a 6:00 bike leg on a 128 mile course that is constant unrelenting rollers ain’t all that bad. The run course was also altered due to permits. That big climb in the middle that you see on the profile? We ran up to the top of that twice. Don’t really think it’s a PR course. I live in the mountains, and I thought the bike leg wouldn’t be all that bad. Well, the ride goes near Fredricksburg, which isn’t all that far from where Lance trains. He trains there for a reason…

“why are you calling IMAZ a " real” IM."

just coz its has an MDot logo and Kona slots. Its interesting to see how the Kona/Mdot combo really is (apparently) 70-90% of the draw for these IM races… IMUSA sells out in 24hours and yet a half-price event of similar distance attracts only 30 competitors.
