True Conservatism....(Old School)

Okay…let’s have a discussion about the differences between true old school republicanism and this bastardized version called neoconservatism…

  1. Fiscal- repubs believe in lowering taxes by markedly decreasing federal spending…neocons…not so much

  2. National- repubs believe in defending national interests, and focus spending towards local or national concerns…neocons…not so much…

3.Religion- repubs believe that having a relationship with god is important, but that it is a private matter, and SHOULD NEVER become a part of the government…neocons…not so much…

4.Foreign Relations- repubs believe in establishing and maintaining strong foreign relations through open discussion and diplomacy…NOT through massive spending on aid. Neocons…not so much…

5.Constitution- repubs believe that this is not only a document, but perhaps the most important way of thinking ever created, and that it is to be defended at ALL COSTS as the most important part of our identity…neocons…not so much…

6.States- repubs believe that the states should have a MUCH stronger role and that most issues can and should be dealt with on a state level…neocons not so much…

7.Government- repubs believe that it is not only our right, but our absolute constitutional DUTY to question and hold our governmental representatives on ALL levels to a high standard…even if it means disturbing party loyalty…The Nixon era republicans understood this…the neocons…not so much…

Your turn?

“We have found that the more highly educated someone is the more likely they are to vote democratic. Which I suppose proves there really is such a thing as too much of a good thing.” -Karl Rove

Did you know that the more highly educated someone is, the less they know about American civics?

Got a site for that quote?

hmmm, a quick google says probably not.

hmmm, a quick google says probably not.

That’s why I asked
.

Yeah, I would probably disagree with that statement as well, knowing quite a few very well educated people. I, myself, am more of a Teddy Roosevelt style republican, and what these latest “neocons” have done, is to essentially destroy the very fabric of the party that I have loved all my life. I can’t vote Democrat, and who would want to anyway…They can’t agree on anything…and after caving recently to Bush, et al, showed that they have absolutely no courage…I think I might be voting third party from now on…

**I think I might be voting third party from now on… **

I vote Libertarian. They’ve got a few nutty views, but so do the R’s and D’s.

With the exception of item four, I don’t have the slightest idea what you are talking about.

The problem is that when look objectively at policy it’s the Democrats who most closely adhere to “conservative” ideals when stated like this.
