Trifan, Spot, Occy...I DID IT..from DU to TRI

Well, thought the gulf coast weather was gonna turn this into a Bike-Run but race morning actually turned out pretty nice in Birmingham. Pretty sure the water temp was warmer than the air temperature at first.

Swim was not as bad as I had played it up to be in my head but I was SOOO slow. My mentality going into it was to get through the swim and then turn it on once back on land. I was in the beginner category since it was my first Tri…here are my times:

500 Swim - 16:20 117th place in my category out of the water…

15.5 Bike - 48:25 26th place off the bike…includes T1 & T2 (44:50 actual ride)…

3 Run - 22:21 17th place at end out of 118 in my category…

Total Time 1:27:04

Will be swimming about 4 times a week for next two weeks before my next sprint…I wonder how things would have gone if I could have actually had even a little swim techinique!

TriFan…good like on your upcoming IM and let us know how it goes…

Spot…any races coming up?

Occy…you out there?

Michael

Dude…that’s freakin’ awesome. Great run…I can’t run that fast without swimming and biking first! My next race is likely to be the Oly distance at LaGrange, Ga., on 24 July. Would be great to meet up again if you’re still gonna be at Rucker.

Spot

Michael, George, other ST peeps…

Go grab an IRC program and get chatting. Here are instructions of how to join up so we can have a real time slowtwitch chat. You can use any other IRC client you’d like. This one just happens to be 100% free and 100% open source. Simply use: #slowtwitch and irc.freenode.net as your channel/server.

Instructions:

Click here to Download Gaim (Free IRC Client)

Then, when you install it… simply check: Run Gaim after it’s finished installing.

Go to “Accounts” - Add new account. Under Protocol, select: IRC

For screen name, pick a nickname. (this can be anything you’d like)

For server, it SHOULD default to: irc.freenode.net Leave that alone. Click save.

Now, in the “Accounts” dialog box simply check the “Online” button to get yourself connected.

Next, in your “Buddy List” click chat at the bottom.

In the Channel area, simply put: #slowtwitch (you must include the # “number” or “pound” sign)

Then click on “Join” You should see the area where we can now chat! Just start typing and if someone is there, you can engage in a real live conversation. I hope to see you and other slowtwitch people there.

Right on bud!!!

That’s a great run time too.

Now you just need to do IMFL with me. chuckle

Maybe come take pictures for me… sheesh, the Bird’s Eye place wants $45 for 4 digital pictures that weren’t really all that good.

Hmmm, I was half-way thinking about doing the race with Spot out at Callaway gardens… the Oly distance seems like it’d be a good quickie to do in the middle of my IM training. Maybe you could set that up to be your next Triathlon?

Also Michael, (Spot too) You guys should try and hop on #fitgeek on irc.freenode.net it’s an IRC (internet relay chat) channel. I started it to go with my fitgeek.org site. (just a blog site for people wanting free geeky/fitness blogs) On IRC we can talk real time. It really rocks.

I’ve posted directions for us to do live chat (under IE so the stupid link would work! grrr). Hope to see you guys online.
