TriBodyboarder's IMC daily blog:

Well, my wife, 6 mos. pregnant has been having small contractions lately, and the doctor advised her not to go with me, so sadly she and my little daughter stayed back home, so I’m flying solo this time around. After a good 40 minutes in the security line at Orange County airport this morning, my flights went off without a hitch, except for the 300lb man sitting next to me from Oakland to Seattle. That was a bit cramped.
Arrived to a beautiful day in Kelowna and got my rental car quickly, stopped at a bank to exchange currency and started the long drive to Penticton. It’s about 60km, but took nearly 2 hours because of LA-style traffic through Kelowna due to new bridge construction causing a big bottleneck. Anyway, the drive down was nice once through that.
Arrived here at the Best Western which is a couple of miles from the transition/expo, so my next move is to get some food and suss out the lay of the land. It’s pretty hot here…mid-80’s for sure. Stoked to have high-speed internet, though the signal is weak. More later…

good luck
.

Went down to the lakefront and caught the kid’s 1K. Classic stuff. Little grommets crying as mom and dad shuffled them down the street toward the finish line as cowbells clanked in the crowd. Mike Reilly calling them in with PNF, Huddle and Frey waiting at the finish line. Classic stuff.

IMC is more important than the birth of your second child? wow.

We’re (evil) twin brothers, separated at birth.

Nice guilt attempt Synchronicity! My wife is 6 mos pregnant, and she had the same issue with our first born…early contractions. A very definitive test last week confirmed her chance of going into pre-term labor is 1 in 100, and she’s been put on Terbutaline, which controls the problem just fine, but her walking around Penticton pushing my daughter in a stroller while I’m busy registering, racing, shepherding them to banquets, etc. was not in her best interests. The strenuous activity aggravates things, so she and my daughter stayed home and took it easy.
So there, hopefully I repelled your attempt at villifying me!

Geez dude… you made it sound like she was imminent.
6 months though… yeah… unlikely chance of a birth while your gone!

Yeah, I should have been more detailed in my initial post. Of course, the small contractions stopped as soon as we called the airline yesterday to cancel her and my daughters’ flights! She’s really bummed that she’s not here. She’s really active and though she loves being pregnant, I know she can’t wait until she can swim, run, etc. again!

Cool. Good luck!

I’m stuck at home… I usually watch IMC every year… but I’d have to drive 10 hours each way to in less than 50 hours to do it this year… no thanks!

Jay
Glad your trip went smooth. Keep us updated.

Trust me Seth… I’d do it… but leaving Penticton at 9pm and driving all night without sleep, to be in Edmonton for work at 9am monday morning… and work a full day… ugghh

Oh wait… you’re a surgeon… you’ve done worse!

I discovered Rossland this summer… I instantly wanted to live there… what an awesome town!!
I ran some of the trails above the town… wow.
Now if only there were IT jobs there…

Cool. Good luck!

ahahahah.

To topic starter, did Mike R call the kids ‘You are an Ironman!’ when they finished the dash? Just stirring  Have a great race. Post your race report when you are done on the transitions site ok?

Your first post made it pretty clear just how pregnant your wife is. The first line read “Well, my wife, 6 mos. pregnant…” You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone, and certainly not to some poster who is just looking for a reason to take a shot. Have a great race.

rossland is awesome…this summer me and a buddy did a month long road trip with mt bikes, went to canmore/kaninaskis/golden/revelstoke/salmon arm/vernon/rossland and fernie. In rossland, I biked 7 summits about a month ago, leaving from town (2 1/2h climbing to the top of the first summit!) (but wimped out on the last 6 k section because i was out of water) got back to our campsite, and went for a easy 40’ run, first thing i figured out was there was nothing flat to go easy on!! but ya, wicked little town, pools abit of a pain with no lane lines though!

ahahahah.

Oh jeez, are the Aussies going to roust me yet again? Actually, I did hear him say something like “you are an IronKid” when one kid crossed the finish line.

Midday Friday update:
Went down to the lake to watch the “underpants run”. Roch and Paul were in all their glory, and it was pretty funny stuff.
Introduced myself to Steve Fleck and BarbBikeTechie. Good to meet you guys!
Went for a 22-minute swim. Felt good to get in the water!
Stood in line for registration for a good 1/2 hour.
Sold my extra banquet tickets. Good to meet you Chris!
Paid WAY TOO MUCH for overpriced Ironman Canada 25th Anniv. stuff.
Walk around the expo.
Watched the pro panel and then introduced myself to Jonnyo. Seemed like he and Gordo have a pretty healthy and very fun rivalry going. Nice to see two guys that race hard, but have a sense of humor!
Grabbed my bike from the TriBikeTransport crew and now it’s lunchtime in the motel room. A bike ride/run brick this afternoon and then the “Welcome Dinner”. More standing in line!

Anyone know if you can buy individual photos from the race online after the race rather than having to shuck out $75 to buy all of them?
Weather is warm and sunny. Very much like the weather I train in back in SoCal.

I’m confused about the time for the pre-race meeting. Last year it was after dinner on Friday night. Someone said today it will be before dinner at around 4:00PM. Can anyone confirm this? Apparently this is so people can get to the hockey game tonight.

No, they’re still saying it’s after the dinner. This is from the schedule on the event website:
4:00 pm – 6:45 pm – Welcome Dinner followed by a Mandatory Meeting for all competing athletes

Dude…you go to Canada and your driving distances are in kilometers now?
